How do you pronounce Loki?

Basically that....

Is it:
Low-ki (long first syllable)
Lo-ki (short first syllable)

I read it as 'just asking'.

OP Very glad you're just asking. In the myths, Loki was deceitful, spiteful, malevolent, murderous. He destroyed good and beauty. He delighted in evil. Really, really not a nice name for a child - and (sorry) terribly 'try-hard but ignorant', too.

It's pronounced the same as Lachie (short for Lachlan) surely? Can park mummy's tell the difference between a Loki and Lachie??

Please think very very hard about this, before you saddle your poor child with a name like that; it says "parents desperate to be different but just making themselves look stupid". Plus, your poor child will never ever forgive you.

Do you actually know anything about Loki, I mean, not something culled from a film?

I think the difference between Loki and Lochia in terms of the 'call across the park' test is minimal.

Still I would pronounce it 'Low-Key'

Low key. As in the Norse god who turns into a female horse and gives birth to an eight-legged horse after being impregnated by a stallion.

Also the baddie in Thor and the Avengers films.

Possibly not a good choice.

My dog is a Loki. She was a mischievous pup, it suits her.

It's your child, but you will always see raised eyebrows from those who recognise the name.

I've only ever heard Low-ki (for both the god and the anti-aircraft and monitoring system).

Er- it's low-key, but seriously, read your Norse Myths before you pick it! He's the trickster god who is mischievous as hell, happily made everyone's lives miserable and ended up trapped, bound and writhing in agony as serpent's venom endlessely poured into his eyes for all eternity until worlds' end....
