gemlouise123 · 13/07/2014 11:46

Ok so previously I had posted on Sorrel Bea as a little girls name and had some really useful feedback. Since then my husband has said he isn't keen.

He likes Alba Rose- any thoughts?

I also like Thistle

If you really like thistle, the the botanical name for one species is 'Carlina'.

It is said that the 'Carlina' was originally 'Carolina'. A legend tells how the thistle miraculously cured the army of medieval King Charlemagne of a terrible pestilence, and so became named after him.

Carolina is a pretty name. (Alberta and Rosanna as mentioned above are very nice, too.)

HenI5 · 15/07/2014 21:23

My Grandmother was Roseanna which means flower of grace. It gives a different kind of twist an Alba and Rose, well, almost.

SillyTillyTilly · 15/07/2014 21:21

Ooh, I hate that book too.

Alberta is nice

MrsMaturin · 15/07/2014 21:19

Alba is the child's name in the Time Travellers Wife. I hate that book. That alone puts me off sorry.

I like Alberta actually - that could be fun.

Augusta?

Ada?

SillyTillyTilly · 15/07/2014 21:16

Thistle is silly

Alba isn't so bad

Vespar7 · 15/07/2014 20:30

I love Alba Rose. A little bit unusual but not too out there.

fishfingerSarnies · 15/07/2014 14:29

Alba is my favorite name ever oh not keen and also I went off it a bit because of the ugly kid in the film of Time travelers wife.

DramaAlpaca · 14/07/2014 23:46

Alba is not pretty at all, as a girl's name it's hideous. As is Thistle. And as for Thistlerose Hmm

Sorrel is much, much nicer.

weatherall · 14/07/2014 23:41

I'm pretty sure that what the little girl from the time travellers wife is called.....

But it's a nice name.

crazylady321 · 14/07/2014 21:57

I really like it very pretty. I think Alba may go on my list :)

Teadrinkerandatinker · 14/07/2014 21:38

was he looking at the hi-fi when he thought up Alba by any chance ?

Leeds2 · 14/07/2014 21:33

There is an Alba at DD's school. She is Spanish. Makes me think of tacky hi-fi in the 80's!

Aprilray · 14/07/2014 21:28

Alba Rose is beautiful. I named my cat Alba and wish I'd saved it for a future dd.

Fattyfattyyumyum · 14/07/2014 20:17

Alba rosa is a cycling club in leeds

albarosacc.com

Alita7 · 14/07/2014 19:58

I love alba rose

frannie2013 · 14/07/2014 19:55

I LOVE Alba. My (3yo) niece is called it and it is really lovely. it means dawn/sunrise in spanish so on holiday we always look out for named things as you can never get anything here! i never thought of the electrical link till my OH mentioned it (he is an electrical buyer...). it is really unusual but not really odd - IMO, though clearly divides opinion!!

scottishmummy · 14/07/2014 19:36

It undoubtedly has a scottish nation connection,as does thistle

florascotia · 14/07/2014 18:20

I'm sure I've said this before, but here in Scotland lots of government publications have 'Alba' on them, because it's the Gaelic name for Scotland and many government documents are at least partially bilingual. In the same way, many institutions are labelled with it, eg the Scottish Parliament is known as 'Pàrlamaid na h-Alba'.
Because of this, it's difficult to see Alba as a girl's name rather than a country name. But you may live far from Scotland and never plan to visit...

Gingerjv · 14/07/2014 17:40

I do not like both: nor Alba neither Thistle.

HerRoyalNotness · 13/07/2014 23:37

Really? I know a few French with girls named Aubrey
