Sorrel - name for a little girl? Your thoughts

What do you think to Sorrel as a little girls name?

My family are all set on her being called Ruby but I just feel that isn't 100% right.

So she could be Sorrel Ruby T(our surname begins with a T)
Sorrel Bea T
Ruby Sorrel T
Bea Sorrel T

How could Sorrel be shorten?

I also like the following names:

Coco
Sage
Wren
Willow
Elmer
Winnie (grandmas name)

Your thoughts would be welcomed

I have a Sorrel. Named after Sorrel Forbes, of course, and wood sorrel, a very pretty little wild flower. It's also an extremely yummy Trinidadian drink

For short, she's mainly Soz. Or Sozza Blush

I'm not keen on Sorrel (we have one in the wider family) mainly because it means 'bitter herb' although I think plant based names generally are lovely.

Me too....

We also live near a village called 'Xxxxxsorrel' and I always assumed her name was connected to the place but now I realise it probably wasn't ... I like it and would consider it were it not for said nearby village.

I like nature-y names like Rowan and Sorrel and as such I've got Fern on my list... Hazel is nice too.

When I first heard it I thought it had a very sad, heavy vibe to it.
Reading other posts I realise its because it reminds me of the words Sorrow and Sorry- and the bit in Tess of the D'Urbervilles where she baptizes her daughter "Sorrow"

Sorrel is a herb isn't it? I know I've eaten wild sorrel in salads... tastes like apple. It's quite a delicate leaf, not bristly at all!

I don't like Sorrel as a first name very much - it's a vegetable, isn't it? Sorrel and her brother, Kale....also, not an elegant sounding name at all, quite coarse and bristly.

I love, love, love Sorrel! I know my DH would veto though. Pesky DH! Smile I also quite like Willow of your other names.

I love Sorrel.

I also like Rowan, Cecily and Briony as plant inspired names.

Seren is beautiful... I know an adult Seren who lives up to her name in every way and makes me love it even more.

I know a little Sorrel, she's about six and a mischievous little cutie. It's one of those names I mentally file as "uncommon but recognisably a name, probably wouldn't use it myself but quite pretty". (As opposed to, say, Sweetpea, which is just plain twee and should remain as a private family nickname / term of endearment.)

I think it's a lovely name. In our family it's only ever been shortened to Soz. But not very often.

Sweetpea is lovely :-) I also like Rowan but my other thalf doesn't. This is my first time posting on a forum so that you for all of your great feedbacka and literary references! Can someone help me out- what do the acronyms DD and DH etc stand for? I am probably being stupid.

A friend suggested Ell as a shortening if I shorten it at all
