Nell, Betsy or Daisy

Hi

Which is your favourite out of the 3 ?

This is my first post on here & I'm due in 10 days with my first baby girl.

I'm really stuck on which name. Loved Nell all the way through my pregnancy but is it too short a name ? & I'm not keen on Nellie.

Betsy is cute too & Daisy seems like a nice but safe option & there are quite a few near where I live.

Please help !!

Betsy and Daisy are both a bit twee. And I know loads of Daisies. I know a couple of Betties too, and I think Betty avoids the tweeness of Betsy.

I don't think people will call her Nellie. Maybe as a one off, affectionate thing but not generally. I have known one Nell (not short for anything) and she was never Nellie. We're using Nell, on its own, as it is, because it's lovely :-)

I know several Nells, and they are all short for Eleanor, which is an awesome name in itself. One was known as Nelly when she was a younger, but has graduated to Nell in her twenties!

My gran was a Nellie, so we are planning on incorporating it in our baby's name if we have a girl.

Choc88 - my sister has never been known as Nellie.

The odd person might have called her Nellie once, but would have soon been corrected.

Nell is also short for Ellen if you wanted a longer name too.

I prefer Nell, then Betsy, then Daisy! I like all 3, Nell probably less common, esp compared to Daisy.

I think it's a dead cert she will be called Nellie tbh.
Also the unfortunate rhyme.

Betsy and Daisy are lovely, so is Patsy.

Nellwyn is an old English name meaning bright friend apparently, which is nice Smile

I think there's quite a high chance she'll get called Nellie by some people. I personally think Nellie is quite nice as a diminutive.
Go for what you love, I think deep down you want to use Nell Smile

Oh gosh I'm more confused than ever :-(
Don't really want my little girl to be called Nellie but I do love Nell :-( Daisy is nice but still I think it's the safe option & not a marmite name.
Do you think there is a chance people will call her Nellie ?

I think Nell is drab, needs to be short for something.
I love Daisy, Betsy is ok.

Nell is my fave quickly followed by betsy. Daisy is much like Maisy

Nell is the name we've chosen for dc4 if a girl. It was a top contender for the others! I love the name Nell - go for it!

If you don't like Nellie stay away from, Nell, because she might decided she wants to be knwn as Nellie. Don't like Daisy, over used. Betsy though Iw beautiful.

Love Nell,I wanted that name except it rhymes with my name!

Betsy I also love!

Daisy is cute for a toddler with ringlets in her hair, but it doesn't feel like an adults name to me!

Helena Bonham Carter has a dd called Nell, if you google you can see some pics of her and may help you imagine a little Nell Smile

Don't like Nell.

Betsy and Daisy are very cute for little girls, but i can't imagine Betsy as a 40 year old woman in a professional job. It doesn't age very well. Couldn't you go with something like Beth or Elizabeth and just use Betsy as a nickname?

Thanks for all your replies. I think I will follow my gut & my heart & go for Nell. I've always loved it & think I will regret it if I don't use it. I've just got to stop obsessing now & find something else to think about haha. Only got a week to go now - feeling tired & ready to pop xx

I have a Penelope, shortened to Nell/Nelly (I know you don't like Nelly). I love Nell and think it works well for children and grown ups. I agree with tess that Daisy and Betsy are cutesy pie names (not my cup of tea)

My younger sister is Nell, so I love the name.

I find it sophisticated and fuss-free.

Daisy and Betsy are far too cutesy for my tastes.
