I like Allegra but wouldn't be brave enough to use it.

deadwitchproject · 23/06/2014 19:46

I really like Allegra but I also thought of the car.
I think car manufacturers have a lot of answer for as they've pinched some lovely names. I absolutely love Mercedes but could never use that for a DD without lots of sniggers Sad

Frikadellen · 23/06/2014 19:19

I adore Allegra I think it is such a beautiful name. I never liked Arabella much however.

DaisyBug1212 · 23/06/2014 16:41

I think if i shortened we would nickname her Leggy. Tilly isnt short for anything shes just Tilly. They are totally different names but i dont have issue with that. x

Have known two lovely Allegras and both were occassionally shortened to Leggy but most of the time the name stayed the same.

KoalaDownUnder · 23/06/2014 14:08

I absolutely love the name Allegra. It's pure class, IMO. I don't know why, but I have a real 'thing' about it.

MummyBeerest · 23/06/2014 13:55

I love it.

Out of interest, is Tilly short for something? Would you shorten Allegra? Because then Tilly and Ally are a bit close.

Guin1 · 23/06/2014 13:45

I really like Allegra (prefer it to Arabella, too). My only reservation would be if it got shortened to Ally and so your DDs were called Tilly and Ally, which is a bit too similar.

thegreengreengrass · 23/06/2014 13:41

I really like it and much prefer it to Arabella.

It does seem a totally different sort of name to Tilly though.

TheCraicDealer · 22/06/2014 19:59

Great name Smile

Lesleythegiraffe · 22/06/2014 19:57

Nice name but I like names kept unshortened.

I guess somebody could shorten this one to Ally or Leggy though.

I really don't know why people choose lovely names and then shorten them. A friend has a Charlotte (Lottie - eugh) and Yvonne (Evie - eugh)

Lovely names - leave them alone!!

ChazzerChaser · 22/06/2014 19:56

Makes me think of the car

DramaAlpaca · 22/06/2014 19:50

I find Allegra quite harsh sounding, but I do like Arabella.

Sidthesausage · 22/06/2014 19:49

Aurora is solar also.

Sidthesausage · 22/06/2014 19:46

Nice but I prefer Electra which is similar

Allalonenow · 22/06/2014 15:29

I really like Allegra, cool and classy with a bit of zap.

DaisyBug1212 · 22/06/2014 15:20

And yes, I do know it's actually allegro.

Onesleeptillwembley · 22/06/2014 15:16

Bit older here - please don't have a son called 'Austin'.

SueDNim · 22/06/2014 15:15

Wasn't there a car called an Austin Allegra - that's whay comes to mind for me.

DaisyBug1212 · 22/06/2014 15:14

i love arabella too!

Love it! Agree it is a bit marmite but if you like it I say go for it...the world would be a very boring place if we were all called the same thing.

Mumof3xox · 22/06/2014 14:57

That's even worse

magpiegin · 22/06/2014 14:56

I saw Algebra when I first read it.
