Honest opinions on Axel?

It was suggested to me on another thread and dp likes it and I think I might. We were thinking Max and I wanted Abel but dp isn't keen and Axel is actually a mix of the two :p

I'm not sure I have the balls to do it though!

Not all that keen on names that sound like a nickname without a full name.

James is dps name and he hates it!

www.sheknows.com/baby-names/name/jem

www.behindthename.com/name/jem

Says on the second one it's a medieval form of James.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 20/06/2014 22:54

Jem is better than Axl, def!

James?

But Jem on it's own would be fine.

HaroldLloyd · 20/06/2014 22:47

I know someone that just has a Jem.

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 22:46

Also reread a bit and liking the nickname Jem but not keen on Jeremiah (or Jeremy) any other names that can shorten to Jem?

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 20/06/2014 22:32

Mostly because it isn't; it's a part anagram for oral sex (Axl Rose)

43percentburnt · 20/06/2014 22:20

I too prefer the Axl spelling. But Rex is a good name, someone mentioned Rex up thread.

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 22:12

I think the Axl spelling doesn't look like a real name :p

OP posts:
fanjodisfunction · 20/06/2014 21:45

I like it but agree the Axl spelling is better.

HaroldLloyd · 20/06/2014 21:23

Actually Maximus axel goes quite nicely.

HaroldLloyd · 20/06/2014 21:22

DP would have loved a roman name. He is Rome obsessed.

What else has he bandied about?

Tobagostreet · 20/06/2014 21:17

I love Maximus Grin

Think you should keep Axel on the maybe list.

Both are really great names.

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 21:15

Maximus is the plan (dp likes greek/norse/roman names, while my taste is very different so its a compromise) but Max in every day life.

If we can't find anything else he will be Max, just deciding if Axel is a contender!

Makes me think of 'The Middle' US comedy. The cool older brother is called Axel.

Cool name. I'd assume that the kid was a cool dude.

Most under 30's would never associate it with Guns n Roses (I say that as a well-over-30 GNR fan).

HaroldLloyd · 20/06/2014 21:10

What about a more unusual max name,

Maximillian or Maximus?

Poofus · 20/06/2014 21:08

Abraham.

longestlurkerever · 20/06/2014 21:05

It does make me think of car parts, sorry, as well as guns n roses.

SlatternLovesLots · 20/06/2014 21:01

Makes me think of Guns n Roses. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just that it was my first thought.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 20/06/2014 21:01

Maxwell?

Elias?

Jeremiah NN Jem?

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 20:59

I'm not really after a sort of thing, just something dp and I agree on (which is barely anything :p).

Didn't Fergie from Black Eyed Peas name her son Axl? Lovely name, much better without the 'e' in it if I'm honest.

kiwiscantfly · 20/06/2014 20:56

I would have been on my short list if DD was a boy, but I prefer Axl. Go for it!
