Keir?

I really like the way this name sounds but I am not sure what image it conjours up. I am going for strong and classic like Keir Hardie and Keir Starmer but does it sound more like a recently coined name like Kai and Kayden?

Also, does it matter that it sounds like Kir Royale and is the same name as the private company who collect the bins where I live? Am hoping that latter is boring enough that people won't have noticed, but am not sure!

Honest opinions welcomed - will an uphill battle to persuade dh anyway so is definitely not settled. An alternative we both like is James but that might be a bit boring.

It would be to go with a long and complicated surname and a sister Anna.

I know a Keir and he's a lovely little boy, so it gets my approval!

It does make me think of kier managed services (are they the same as the ones who collect the bins?). But I suppose anyone who actually knew you/your son would soon get over that.

Ah, well I don't mind Ks as such. Dsis is Katharine, BIL is Kristian and SIL is Kristina and none of them grate on me. I even like Keiran but know it's not mumsnet-approved.

Exceptions being
Katherine (and it's diminutives)
Karen
Kim
Killian

and anything "foreign" like Klaus or Kuldeep.

Efferlunt · 20/06/2014 13:20

I love it but DH rejected it for being 'too left wing'.

IMO, all boys names' which start with a K are to be avoided. And some girls' names too.
