It's my husbands name and before I met him I taught the most sweet, beautiful little boy called Kyle. He had big blue eyes and blonde hair. I love the name but am biased. My hubby is lovely too xxx

I agree with the poster who said dislike towards a particular name is down to being overused. Personally Kyle isn't to my taste but other names eg Ava and Sophie are two that spring to mind are similar. There was a time I loved both these names but now they are everywhere which takes from them.

It's my DS's name so I obviously really like it. I live in a very small Scottish village and it doesn't have any negative connotations here. Definitely not approved on here but then that's only a tiny niche representation.

Some of the MN approved names are, to me, awful

Out of all of the thousands of names I just can't imagine why anyone would choose it as the best name of all.

It's not exactly a favourite, if I'm honest. Has unfortunate connotations of Jeremy Kyle and a harsh look and sound, Plus, it tends to gain an extra syllable when screamed loudly in a park/supermarket (Kyyy-awwwl!)

As a teacher, I've come across several 'challenging' Kyles and one very lovely one - unfortunately he wasn't quite enough to redeem the name for me!

I don't like it. I agree that a lot of old Gaelic names have developed unfortunate connotations which is a pity. But then in the 60s and 70s we also managed to ruin French names like Jacqueline, Michelle and Suzanne - probably mis-pronouncing them as well as the 'creative' spellings such as Jaclyn.

To be honest, I think its an awful shame that lovely names that have a real history and heritage in their country of origin, become cheapened by being overused and wrongly pronounced by people in other countries calling their kids after boyband members or football players.

I think it's the 2000s version of Darren, Jason and Wayne. It probably started off as a nice traditional Scottish name, - the way here in Ireland Liam or Connor are nice traditional Irish names, but in the UK they're seen as a bit chavvy.

Also I work with someone who has a two year old called Kyle and she never ever ever talks about anything else Sad

I don't like it. It always strikes me as a "naughty boy" name even though I know that makes no sense.

I do like Kylie for a girl.

When I gave birth to my DD in 2004, she was the only girl in the 6 bed post delivery ward.

All 5 new babies on my ward were called Kyle. All of them!

It's another of those names, together with Ryan, Callum etc that were perfectly nice names used in their country of origin that have now spread and are used ubiquitiously throughout and have developed a lot of negative connotations. I personally wouldn't use it (mainly because I'm not having any more children) as those connotations would put me off.....as would the assumptions that people would make about me and my child.

All names are liked and disliked by different people. That's why we don't all pick the same names.

When I was at university, my male flat mate met this girl and she said to me and the other female in our house that she didn't know how we could live with our male flat mate as he was so good looking that it was mind blowing and how did we concentrate on our work! We were gobsmacked! That's what I think names are like.
