Summer/Autumn

Currently pregnant with DC3 and he/she is due on the equinox in September (the equinox is the official end of Summer and start of Autumn and I think it's when there's exactly the same amount of daylight as darkness.

I am now considering the names Summer and Autumn for a girl. If she's born on or before 22nd Sept, call her Summer, and if she's born after call her Autumn.

I've suggested this to hubby and he straightaway said no (although we definitely considered Summer during our previous two pregnancies, so I'm sure I could convince him!)

What do you all think to the names? Our only other alternative for a girl is Scarlett.

What's your favourite? Scarlett or Summer/Autumn?

Don't like Scarlett (I keep thinking scarlett harlot)

Prefer summer to autumn x

burgatroyd · 24/06/2014 17:29

I like Autumn out of the three.

I second the suggestion of September.

Umbrellasandladders · 24/06/2014 07:20

Autumn is very pretty

HibiscusIsland · 23/06/2014 22:50

I love Autumn and prefer it to Summer. Where I live people might pronounce Summer as "Summuh" which would put me off a bit.

Somethingpink · 23/06/2014 14:40

Dd was born last October and we named her Autumn...we love it and so does everyone else who hears it Smile

KoalaDownUnder · 23/06/2014 14:19

I've heard people say that Summer is a bit stripper-ish, but...meh. I don't think so.

Mind you, I watched a movie yesterday in which a girl became a porn actress, and her name was Tess (as her porn/stripper name, not her real name). Which leads me to think anything can be a stripper name!

betold · 23/06/2014 14:14

I wanted Summer for DD but DH worked with a girl who was a part time stripper and Summer was her stage name...

KoalaDownUnder · 23/06/2014 14:12

I love the name Summer. It makes me happy, and I just like the sound of it. Autumn is lovely, too.

I don't like Winter, because it gives me images of coldness and austerity.

Scarlett is one of those names I kind of want to like, but don't.

TheLeftovermonster · 23/06/2014 14:08

Scarlet Autumn or Scarlet Summer?

mandbaby · 23/06/2014 09:37

Wow, a mixed bag of replies. Thanks to everyone who's commented.

Must admit, I am leaning more towards Autumn (it's my favourite season too) but I just can't convince hubby. Yet.

May have to play the "well I gave birth to her and carried her for 9 months" card

After all this, it will probably be a third boy!!

Love love love Autumn! It's beautiful and would be the top of my list if I were to ever have another daughter.

Summer is nice (but I way prefer Autumn), hate Scarlett though, all I see is the horrible word 'scar'!

ashesandfire · 19/06/2014 20:17

I like Summer and Autumn. The names now remind me of the film '500 days of summer' which I love! I especially like Autumn and like both of them much more than Scarlett.

molly84 · 19/06/2014 18:33

Never met an Autumn - really pretty name. Not as keen on the others.

Passthebiscuitsvicor · 19/06/2014 15:28

Scarlette is lovely, not sure about the other 2. Don't offend me or anything, just not to my taste. But would be a boring works if everyone chose from the top 10! X

MummyBeerest · 19/06/2014 12:34

I have a Scarlett Smile It's an awesome name.

I know a beautiful little Autumn. I don't think I've met a Summer since the '90s...may be due a comeback?

ButterflyOfFreedom · 19/06/2014 12:15

Not keen on Summer; Autumn is slightly better; Scarlett is fantastic!

justhayley · 19/06/2014 02:09

I love the name Autumn think it's wonderful and would wack it in my almost ready DDs name if DP would agree. Something like Autumn Rose is lovely Smile

Not to keen on Summer - something about it reminds me of a stripper name, absolutely no idea why sorry. Used to quite like it actually.

Love the idea though.

Rtfairy · 18/06/2014 22:10

I think Autumn is lovely, also like Scarlett but not as keen on Summer I don't know why.

maggiethemagpie · 18/06/2014 21:46

Well January Jones is named after a month so what about September?

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/06/2014 20:15

I really dislike Scarlett.

Autumn is lovely.

Summer is a bit...done for me.

Haf prn Harv (Harvey without the ee sound) is Welsh for Summer. Bit more unusual?

Pebbles0934 · 18/06/2014 20:13

Autumn is lovely..... I wanted for number 3 but it's a boy.

I think it sounds more sophisticated than Summer IMO!

I'm not keen on Scarlett. I know 3. It's just not one of the names I would choose.

looki · 18/06/2014 20:03

I don't like any of them but especially Scarlett. If I had to be named one of them myself I would prefer to be called Summer out of the three.

serendipity16 · 18/06/2014 19:54

I have a Summer, she's 10 :)

If i'm honest, i wish i had called her Autumn as i think it'd suit her better & i love it just a bit more than i do Summer.

My daughter was born in February, no one ever said it was odd to call my daughter Summer when she was born in February.

I love both name, so not much help really.
