I think names like Jasper, Felix and Milo are pets names, Oscar as well but that's becoming more popular on children!

I would have said Jasper was a dog's name rather than a cat's name. Very popular for cocker spaniels in my experience.

I think it's horrible.

Haven't read all the comments yet but just noticed someone said Jasper is the dog's name from Rebecca. My name is Rebecca and I had a dog called Jasper! Spooky! Do you mean the Daphne du Maurier novel? Sorry, getting a bit side tracked.

OP, I actually really like it! I don't normally like names which are a bit unusual but really like Jasper and Jazz as nn.

I know 3, none are particularly posh (although mother of the youngest is v v pretentious!)

I would never associate Jasper with a cat. But it's one of those names which would have sounded ridiculously posh to me when I was younger, but now seems to have become more mainstream. Like Felix, Hugo and Sebastian.

I agree that with a double-barrelled surname, the name will look posh on paper.

I don't mind it... No love or hate!

Unfortunately, for me it is a pet name as I know 2 cats and 2 dogs called Jasper. But I know lots of cats and dogs called Oscar so that has always been a pet nane for me but lots if child Oscar's around now!

My children are in their mid twenties and it was a favourite of mine to read to them- therefore Jasper=cat.

It depends on your age-'Jasper's Beanstalk' - Mick Inkpen published in 1990's. That is why I think 'cat'.

I have no idea why it would make me think of a cat yet I do remember, aged about 8, answering the phone to 'this is Daddy's friend Jasper, could I speak to him please?' I passed over the phone and went running to find my sister shrieking that 'Daddy has a friend called Jasper miaaow, miaaow, miaaow'. We were in hysterics and referred to 'Daddy's cat friend' for months.

I'd forgotten all about that until I read this post and I still don't know why I reacted like that. But it obviously made me think cat when I was 8!

I quite like the name though.

For clarification - DP meant that the name is likely to be seen as 'posh', which is why it's a pretentious choice and would no longer be used by UC!

I still like it. Don't let other people's ideas put you off the name if you really like it, OP.

I don't think its posh. Associate with jasper carrot. Really think its a bad name sorry.

Well I knew one in my yoof - v sexy and mysterious type. He made me a mix tape...not sure if that helps you name your baby Son though!!

Not posh or whatever (what's posh anyway??) Def a person's name, as opposed to domestic animal, sounds like you love it - why not go for it?!

Makes me think of the bumbling dog thieves in Disney's animated 101 Dalmations. And then all I hear in my head is Cruella deVille rasping 'I want those puppies!'.

That said, I like it. When I mentioned it to DP as a possibility for our boy's name short-list he actually laughed out loud. And then went on about how pretentious it is. Even though his own family is ridiculously UC posh
but I suppose that's why he would never want to use it...
