Maisie... Will it age well?

Just discovered that this gorgeous name is an old traditional Scottish name and a variation of Margaret. Both Margaret and Scottishness have special meaning to me.

The only thing making me hesitate is that whilst Maisie is perfect for a baby or little girl, would it suit an professional woman?

Until now I've been looking for names that 'age' well (Like Jessie/Jess/Jessica, Josey/Jo/Josephine etc). Will Maisie age well?

I can't really go with Margaret, but would really like to honour the name. My DP surname is very Scottish (we are both English but it just so happens both our Grandparents are very proud scots) and I like the idea of an old traditional Scottish name 'fitting' with my DP surname.

I guess if all these Elsie, Evie, Gracie (etc) get older the name will get older with them, because names get older with them. It just sounds like a very young name at the moment. I really love it though, as does my DP.

To be honest I've always thought Maisie is quite a cutesy name and definitely more suited to a little girl than an adult, however there are a lot more of those kinds of names being used these days, so when she grows up it will probably just seem completely normal!

If Margaret is important to you would you maybe use that as a 'grown up name' and introduce her as Maisie so that it sticks when she's young?

I think it's gorgeous. Maisie is possibly more of a little girl's name (although I'm sure someone will come on and tell me I'm wrong :)) so I'd put Margaret on the birth certificate so she can use it if she wishes later, and then use Maisie as a NN.

That said, while I love the name Margaret, my mother is a Margaret, and she doesn't like it. The reason she gives is that everyone shortens it without asking - so she's Maggie, Meg, Marge etc...

I guess it could also be shortened to May, but that still sounds quite 'sweet'
