Maisie... Will it age well?

Just discovered that this gorgeous name is an old traditional Scottish name and a variation of Margaret. Both Margaret and Scottishness have special meaning to me.

The only thing making me hesitate is that whilst Maisie is perfect for a baby or little girl, would it suit an professional woman?

Until now I've been looking for names that 'age' well (Like Jessie/Jess/Jessica, Josey/Jo/Josephine etc). Will Maisie age well?

Use Margaret and have Maisie as a nickname. Loads of other fab shortenings to choose from too.

It's a washer woman's name. I imagine a Maisie to have a life of drudgery.

Dd1 has a 'twee' girly name according to mn. However there are a lot of old west Indian women with that name.

I used to think that about the name Amy. I couldn't imagine an old lady with that name till I met one.

The only Maisies I know are in their 80s.

It is a bit twee.

Prefer Margot, meg, Greta or Gretchen if you're looking for Margaret related names.

But that's just me. There are billions of little girls with twee names which are gonna grow with them.

Personally I find Maisie/Maisy too cutesy and Mouse like, and much prefer Margaret or Margherita.

Our Maisie is now mid twenties and when she was little hated it as it was less common and a dog/cat/old lady name Grin. It suits her fine still and she has a professional job. I think names become the person not the other way around iyswim

I had an 'aunty' Maisey - she was a friend of my gran and grandad so an adult name to me -- I love it

Why not call her Margaret with Maisie as a shortening? That gives her loads of options.

We love it too/ and opted to use it as a middle name as my hubbie was worried about it bring too cute ! Think you should just go for it if you love it!!!

Pronounced "May" just shortening the name.
I used to be embarrassed about it being unusual and a "dogs" name. And more importantly I couldn't ever find anythig with my name on until a few weeks ago. Grin

I think it will age perfectly well, along with Daisy, Poppy, Polly, Molly, Freddie, Charlie, Alfie, Millie, Maddie, Ruby. All traditional names with a contemporary feel as they have been popular for a while. They are the lawyers, doctors, teachers, shop assistants of the future.

Tess (or should I say Maisie!), thanks for that. I think part of the reason is that I've simply never met anyone called Maisie, apart from the mouse Maisey of course.

Do people pronounce Mai as 'May' or 'My'?

My now-deceased aunt was Maisie but christened Mary. Gorgeous name, go for it.

I personally think it's a bit too cutesy and sweet as a full name, and prefer it as a nickname. If not Margaret than how about Mairead or Mabel?

I honestly believe that the person wears the name not the other way around. Maisie is a lovely name and there is no reason why it can't be an 'adult' name

Hi, I'm a Maisie. I hated it when I was a teen as I thought it sounded twee. But now I'm in my twenties I feel like it's grown with me.
I get called Mai a lot, and ended up giving DD the middle name of Mai as I was referred to as that by her Dad.
