My girls shortlist - need opinions on more unusual names?

I actually like Biba for a girl and considered it for DD.

Wren as a first name? Its gorgeous! Sky sounds horrid in some accents imo. Alma is lovely! Bibi ok but sounds too 'little girl' for me ie might not suit a grown woman (eventually). Could you go with Beatrix and shorten to Bibi? Bogof on baby names!

Beatrix is the best from your list. My dd's middle name is Beatrix and we call her Bea Bea so that could link in with Bibi?

Julietta - shortened to Etta?

I know an 11 year old Alma, she is half Spanish, I think it is more used there. Anyway, it is pretty and nice on an adult as well as a small child. I like Bibi on a little girl, I sometimes call my smallest Bibi, but on a grown woman it makes me think of those rather dreadful made in Chelsea types. Etta was probably a nickname no? Agree it sounds infinished. And agree Etta Wren no no no. it is like Iona Bull or Jenny Taylor. Echo, well I like mythical names, but your child would have to be extraordinarily beautiful and quirky to carry it off. Ivy- I like the plant so I like the name too. It is popular though, but that isn't such a terrible thing. Hate Eden, Sky, Phoenix. All too try-too-hard. Calypso is terrible, sorry. It is like calling your child Tango.

Ivy - don't like this and am baffled as to its current popularity
Etta - Etta James could just about carry it off but it sounds so unfinished
Alma - hideous, a real 'Brenda' of a name. (Sorry Brendas)

Bibi - love this but would probably use as a nickname for something longer
Calypso - does remind me of Calypo lollies but also the Camomile Lawn which I love
Beatrix - boring
Eden - American soap star
Sky - a bit 90's
Phoenix - NO NO NO

Agree with earlier posters - if you love Ivy, stick with the name.
Otherwise, I like Beatrix a lot, and Alma has a very nice meaning.

Wren is pretty as a middle name. Ivy Beatrix Wren, perhaps, or Ivy Alma Wren??

Out of all your names I love Beatrix - you could then use the nn. Bibi so 2 names in 1 :)

Ivy- nice and I don't know any children with this name so unsure of how popular it is.

Etta- I really like. Maybe not with Wren though. What about Effie? Or Marnie?

Alma- I'm not keen. Reminds me of coronation street. What about Alba? Not to my taste but you might like? Means white I think?

Echo and Bibi I do not like at all. They sound like pet names. Echo for a dolphin.

Phoenix was on my list for a boy. I'm not keen for a girl. It's a Greek name for a boy?!

Sky is not unusual anymore at all. I know quite a few. Used to be my favourite name but not anymore.

Eden is ok, I know 2.

Beatrix is really nice and I live Trixie as nn.
Trixie Wren is nice and unusual.

However I really like Wren as the first name? Have you considered this?

PS I agree with Mary - go with what your heart tells you, or you will end up regretting it. Our 4 month old dd is called Lily. I tried to convince myself that we should call her something different due to how popular the name is, but even before we fell pg with her we had decided really… I am so glad we stuck with it despite my reservations. It is perfect for her

If Ivy was the first name that popped in your head when you found out you were pregnant, you will regret picking a different name. That's her name, don't feel you need to give her an 'unusual' or 'special' name - give her one that your heart told you too.

It's hard if you're surrounded by other pregnant woman trying really hard to find an unusual name or something with an interesting historical meaning, but your name choice means something to you and your family.

If it ends up being popular or overused, that's because lots of people think it's gorgeous too.

Etta Wren.... as in 'ate a wren'... that is why you can't use that name combination!

Eden lovely name, as is Sky, or alternate spelling Skye with e on the end.

Beatrix lovely, also option of spelling Beatrice.

I think Wren is a lovely middle name, but you will have to choose first name carefully to avoid overkill.

Princess Diana's car crashed in the Alma tunnel by the Seine in Paris. Alma was a battle in the Crimean war (hence the bridge and tunnel named after that battle).
