Kaiser....?

Stumbled across this at work (don't ask). Someone from that MTV show Teen Mom has announced her new child will be called Kaiser.

Is it me or... no. Just - no.

Not meaning to be snobby, but Kaiser just isn't a name, is it?

This year sees the century of the outbreak of the First World War.

I think it is a spectacularly bad time to choose this as a name if you are Caucasian and live in Europe.

It is on a par with Adolf.

Kaiser Wilhelm was part of the cause of ww1 with making Germany strong and a leading power in Europe. not direct associations but that Aryan nation train of thought and anti semitism.

It's a derivative of the same name, but while Cesar is acceptable and widely used Kaiser is very much Hmm.

I have come across Khizzer and Qasir.

Not keen on Kaiser and remember doing Franco Prussian history as part of A level history.

The origin of the both the German and Arabic names is the Latin title Caesar = emperor (approx). Russian Tsar/Czar has the same origins.

Caesar (the Romans said: Kai-sahr) was originally a Roman family name. It probably meant 'hairy'.

It seems to be a cross cultural name with origins in the German & Arabic languages. In Arabic the name Qaiser, is pronounced as Qoyser with an emphasis on the s sound rather than the z of Kaiser.

Kaiser is a title (as earlier poster have said). Bit like calling a baby King or (direct translation) Caesar. However, I have just come across this link which shows they also had some pretty way-out names in the past. I love the idea of calling a baby 'Photo' in the 1860s, presumably in homage to the very latest new technology:

The site is a blog so entries change; I'm referring to a list called 'Finds from 1866', posted 3/6/2014. As well as 'Photo', there is also a baby Goliath, an Obedience and a Leviathan.

I know someone who has a two year old Kaiser who goes by the nickname Kai.

Kaiser is a name of a hospital and insurance company in the states. I hated working with Kaiser- the name just puts me on edge.

My swedish boss has a girl Caisa (pronounced Kaiser), it is not considered odd here (norway)

Jace & Kaiser sounds like some sort of alt-rock band.

Jace is ok though actually.

Her first son is called Jace. For ages I thought it was short for Jason but apparently it's just Jace.
