Faye?

What do you think of the name Faye? Is it a winner or a loser? It seems to be one of those names which is always around, never in the top 20 but never desperately out of fashion either.

80's came to mind here too. And it is bland for some reason. Nothing particularly dreadful or negative about it, though.

I love Faye. Its great for a child or adult. I wanted it for dd's middle but dh wanted something that was clise to it but not the same but less frequently used so we went with that.

There are 2 in my dc's year one class, surprisingly. It's nice but I don't love it.

I don't like it tbh. I do think it's a bit wishy washy/vacant. I much much much prefer Freya.

I don't like it, I'm not sure why. It's just a bit bland, nice for a mn perhaps but not first name.

It is DD2 middle name without the e so I love it however it is popular in her class as there are 2 girls called it.

Good I don't like too popular! Never thought of it as a granny name, there were a couple of Fay/e's in my year at school though. I was originally thinking Ella as I've really liked the name, from years ago, but it is far too popular now.

I don't think that Faye/Fay has ever been very popular in the UK. It's not in the top 100 names in 1920s or 1930s, see:

Or in the 40s and 50s (same source).

Faye was ranked 198 in USA in 1920s:

Even after Fay Wray starred in King Kong in 1933, it does not seem to have become much more popular. It only climbed to no 164 (same source as above).

Fay was Wray's middle name; her first name was Vina.

It's on my short list. I think of it as a very 20s name. It's more unusual (not common) but nice normal if that makes sense. I love the meaning too

I love it. I know one 2 year old and two 30 year olds with the name. Best with a long/mid length surname.

It's my dds middle name. She's 22 though, so I'm not sure it's entirely up-to-the-minute. I like it though, obviously.

I do know a very lovely adult Fay (without the e) who is elegant and very nice and I think of it as a very graceful name - I don't know if that's because it reminds me of her. It is a pretty sound.

It's my sister's name, we have a one-syllable surname, but totally different sound, so does work ok. Although I tend to think of it as being fairly uncommon, she had another one in her tutor group at secondary school.
