I absolutely love this name. Ever since I watched Pearl Harbour when I was younger. DH didn't like it for dd and so we named her something else. He's now changed his mind and likes it, with the nn Evie. So it's what we will call our next DC (due in jan) if a girl. I'd love a boy next, but the thought of having a girl also excites me as I get to use this name! It does worry me a bit about the pronunciation though as I know Ev-eh- Lin is more American, but that's the one id like to use.

I would associate it strongly with Evelyn Waugh, and though I don't think it's used on boys this century, it's still widely considered unisex. Is that OK with you?

Also, I would be put off because there are two ways to say it, and I know the years of making corrections would rile me. But perhaps you wouldn't mind.

I think it's one of those names that is popular at the moment. I know of two born in 2014 already!!!

  1. Can be pronounced in more than one way. I am too impatient to be bothered with this.
  1. It probably hardly ever is used as a boy's name now but it has been in the past, so it won't be 100% obvious from your baby's name that she's a girl. That would irk me too.

I am in my 50s and for me the name is strongly identified with Evelyn Home, the name of the agony aunt from Woman magazine. The other person I think of is Evelyn Waugh, who was a man.

See I would pronounce it like you Ev- uh - lin
but there is one in my DD's class and it is definitely pronounced Eve - uh - lin so you may end up correcting people more than you might think.

It's a lovely name though Smile

I love it and it was on our list but we are going for Ellen.

I don't think it would be mid pronounced too much at all.
