Does everyone think the spelling of my chosen name is odd??

Hubby and I just found out we are expecting a little girl.

We have chosen the name Sofee but everyone thinks we should spell it a more traditional way.

Am I just being weird??

Nope looks like Sofa. If you want Sophie spell it properly otherwise people will judge I promise. I hate silly made up spellings of names.

The OP has only put one f in it so I would say Soh-fee (like sofa) rather than soff -ee (to rhyme with toffee).

I don't think it's a good idea though. I have come across Sophy and Sofie. But not Sofee.

I think that spelling makes it quite 'hard' where the name Sophie is a 'soft' name, if you see what I mean.

I'd think again on the spelling, it just looks wrong and she will forever be seen as chavvy.

I've taught a Summa, two boys both called Jak, a Loydd, a Jordin, a Danyel and an Ammey.

They all wished their parents had spelt the names the 'normal' way.

It would be silly to misspell Sophie. Knowing what children can be like she will be teased at school when the other children realise.

It doesn't even say Sophie phonetically.

If you like the name Sophie just call the kid Sophie.

If I saw a child called Sofee, I would pronounce it so-feee (more if an emphasis on the fee part)

And to me it either looks like It should be spelt Soffy or so feeeeeeee. bad idea.

I've known a Sophy and that was just different enough to be interesting without getting too silly. I agree that Sofee makes you look embarrassingly illiterate, which would be very ironic given that the name means Wisdom. She would not thank you for giving her such a weird spelling. Sofia would be reasonable.

As others have said, Alys is Welsh and an older spelling of the name than Alys.

It makes me think of a child misspelling a friends name on an invite "dear sofee please come to my party..."

Sofie I think you can get away with - she'll still have to keep spelling it but I think some other countries use that spelling.

Sofee to me looks like it should be pronounced saw-fee
