Does everyone think the spelling of my chosen name is odd??

Hubby and I just found out we are expecting a little girl.

We have chosen the name Sofee but everyone thinks we should spell it a more traditional way.

Am I just being weird??

I agree, if you want an F in it - Sofie sounds better than Sofee

If you like the spelling with an f, why not go for Sofia? Somehow less wrong-looking than Sofee (a cross between sofa and settee)

Sofee - with the first part pronounced soo to rhyme with zoo. Does the e change the sound of the o?

If this baby us a girl we love the name Sophie!

But that just looks like poor spelling. I can almost envisage a teacher saying ' good try dear but that's not how you spell your name.'

Sophie is a lovely name and for the sake of your daughter having a simpler time of it I would definitely spell it as Sophie (or Sofie if you really prefer the F)

she sometimes spells it Sophy as she is a contrary teenager!

I don't think spellling it Sofee is a good idea though, sorry

A few countries have allowed names lists, including France it's - Germany, Norway, Sweden, Japan, China, Iceland and New Zealand.

They're not massively restrictive and may actually have a point.

Sofee is the brand name of a type of toffee. IMO.

I wouldn't comment on a name in real life even if it was total dreadful. I'd just smile and say how nice. But on MN people can get a realistic opinion.

But why would you come onto MN and ask if you were happy with your choice of name (and its spelling).

The OP still has the choice, people choose all sorts for names these days, I would never comment IRL, mind you my expression would probably be enough, but no one ever asks my opinion anyway sensibly

The spelling isn't odd, it's wrong.

Why do you want to deliberately misspell a name? If you don't want a common/popular name, I think you need to choose another name rather than make up your own spelling.

I know someone who spelled her daughters name in a similar fashion - think Poppy spelled Poppee. She constantly complains people spell it incorrectly. Meanwhile everyone thinks she used a ridiculous spelling and it has raised quite a few eyebrows and sniggers.

A lot of people on MN don't like bizarre spellings of names. So if you ask the same question you can expect the same answer. But in the end people can call their DC's whatever they wish within reason. So I can't see what the fuss is about.

This is why I'd like to see a poll option on some threads. It would have been nicer to vote 100 to 1 against the name than have 100 people say it's crap.

OK I'll bite.
OP is a long standing poster and has loads of threads about the pregnancy- the most recent about how excited and nervous she was about going to the scan yesterday.
I imagine she's feeling pretty belittled.
Really, if there's a strong consensus on a thread, with no response from the OP, why on earth would you rock up to put the boot in.
