Struggling with boys names

devoncreamtea · 04/06/2014 08:32

Hello everyone,

Finding it hard to come up with any names I really like for a boy...

I like simple names, 'rustic' in feel (!!) old fashioned ish but not things like Arthur. Not bothered about popularity.

I already have 3 girls: Meg, Bess and Emma and 1 boy - Rafe.

Love the name Rafe and would really like to find something I love as much for this chap.

My list changes daily (hormonal...) but liking:
Jem
Laurie

My dh likes Ed, but I HATE it....

If you have something to throw into the pot, please do!

I like Laurie best.
Jem reminds me of the 80's cartoon, girl with bright pink hair! (Probably just me though!)
Soren? Soren Lorenson in Charlie and Lola?

Good luck!!!!

I came over all wobbly reading the wiki page Grin

Sascha is great. It's the Russian diminutive for Alexander. If you like that sort of thing, Mischa? (Russian diminutive for Michael) or Pasha (pavel/Paul).

Or, if you like scandi names... Stellan? (wanders off to Wikipedia Stellan Skarsgard).

Just been reading Viggo's wiki from the link above. Wow, he's a bit of a renaissance man isn't he?

Love Laurie, Kit and Jem. What about Jed?

Biscuitsneeded · 04/06/2014 19:17

Just an idea because you mentioned liking Scandie names - Ds has a Viggo in his class and I think it's a lovely name.

CornChips · 04/06/2014 18:51

Oh that's sweet flips - Ted! I've seen it as a nn for 'Theodore' (makes me think of The Chipmunks) but not for Edward. Food for thought!

I love the name Ned, but we have an unfortunate surname for that name - unless I wanted to name him after the outlaw!

Doesn't help you, but I'm in the same boat and know exactly how you feel about not other names grabbing you. Pg with DC2 and no idea what to call him if he's a boy. There was one boy's name that I loved, and I used it. I've got nothing else...!

Rafe is lovely by the way

flipflopsonfifthavenue · 04/06/2014 15:17

I have an Edward who is Ted/Teddy as DP HATED Ed too!

devoncreamtea · 04/06/2014 15:15

Edwin! Some names just change for you when you meet one in real life, I would never pick Arthur, but I know a really lovely little boy named Arthur so it has lost it's Eastenders association for me (old!!)

Thanks Santa (great name!) Love Joss, Jack is sweet, but is already taken in family. I think Kit is cool,(love Kitty for a girl).

If this little one was a girl I would go for Ingrid or Anouk. For some reason I find girls names easy but boys names so tricky....

Also, we met a little boy on holiday called Edwin. It's a name I've seen suggested on here but I've always thought "eww, no, too old man" - but actually it seemed really nice on him!

His sister was Emma.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 04/06/2014 15:04

Jem would be perfect with your other names Smile.

I think you probably need another short one syllable name (or nn at least) - I would choose Jem, but some others that spring to mind are;

Joss (nn for Joshua if you like "proper" names on the BC)
Seth
Jack
Zen (seems slightly odd on first hearing, but a good friend has a little Zen and it has really grown on me!)
Kit (nn for Christopher)
