Tamar

...for a girl. Has Biblical references and means date tree but I think river in Cornwall so would pronounce Tay mar. Too masculine? Bit like calling a kid Thames or strong and unusual? Opinions welcome.

Teifi has a lovely prn but looks like tief, slang for thief around these parts.

Bible story rather off putting but isn't there another Tamar who's not so frisky?

It's not a very 'nice' Bible story though is it? She dresses as a prostitute to trick her FIL to sleep with her and give her an heir. It would put me off completely.

And I also know a Teifi, pronounced Tye-vee (Welsh river).

Being Cornish, it makes me instantly think of the river. And I don't know anyone who thinks of the Tamar fondly!
Is Tamara too feminine for you?

The only Tamar I know is a girly girl, and it suits her just fine.
