We are sorted for a girls name, since I suggested Liliana dp won't consider anything else and I love it too :) We find out in 3 weeks and I want to have at least one boys name we love but we aren't doing great. We have a list but there's nothing we both really love.

So far:

Michael (a family name but I'm not convinced)
John (but dp isn't all that convinced)
Max(imus) I really like max but not sure I it's enough
Cohen (dp likes this best, I do like in theory but not sure about using it!)
We might like Victor And durian but again can't imagine them on a child.

Names I vetoed - Odin, loki, Titus.
Names dp vetoed - Ivor, Jared, Casper, Rowan, isaac, Caleb, luke, Ralph, Rodger, dexter...
Names we like but can't use due to family and friends - Jacob, Alex, Elijah, kit, Elliot, Edward and James.

I've tralled the net and books but I must have missed something!
Any unusual ideas welcome :)

Trouble with most of those names which are
In the family that I'm talking about are my brothers name who has told me I can't use his name :p my name which is unisex, dps name....

Maxwell is a close friends surname so wouldn't feel comfortable with that. We thought Maximus as dp likes roman, Greek and norse gods names and most of them are silly but maximus has that kinda sound and I can just call him max.

We don't have a genre or type. Mostly because dp likes so few names and I like lots in different genres. Surname names sound a bit american to me.

I honestly am quite worried well never find something that we both love...

I wonder if we can over think these things.

I have a shortlist, I'm on and started names threads and even though I have names for both in my head yet I still keep looking in case I find something better

dh won't even discuss it yet but he says when we do he'll do his own shortlist and we'll just go with the first ones we both like.

Point being if you both like Maximus and it fits your criteria, go for it!

My list is all over the place in terms of style too. We both like the idea of sorting it beforehand I'm not keen on the idea of us dithering about for days while the baby has no name but we have plenty of time.

Please don't use Durian - it is a very smelly fruit in southeast Asia.

Your DP seems to like quite out-there names. Others in the Odin vein (which you may prefer):

Atlas
Tycho (this was on our shortlist)
Jupitur
Isambard
Castor
Hector

And a few biblical ones to match Elijah:
Malachi
Balthazar
Levi
Solomon

The trouble is MrsNec, that I like Max/ Maximus/ Maximillian, but I don't like it like I love Jacob, Isaac, Luke, Caleb, but they've been vetoed or are close family members :/

Stokey, that was a typo, it was meant to be Dorian :)

See they are too out there for me, I just want a not too common but not unheard of name that we both love, which seems to be too much to ask :/

And I really really want to use my name because I love it (not in an arrogant way, I just happen to really like it) if it's a boy (it's unisex) but it would be far too confusing as I have 3 dsds, one of which live with us, who all call me by my first name, and it's already a short version so everyone would be running around shouting the name and we'd forever be confused... hmph.

Oh gosh I can understand how it's difficult for you.

I love my first name too. I don't think it's arrogant.it fits with our criteria too and I'd consider it without the family rule ( and if dc was born at the right time of year as I was given it as it was festive but dc won't be born at Xmas like me)I also have my dm's name as my middle name and that doesn't bother me but my inlaws think that's arrogant of my parents I think they're in the wrong because they shouldn't have an influence and I hadn't even asked for their opinion.that's even more arrogant imo.

I'm not sure about Dorian. I think there are far nicer names on your list.

If you're not that convinced by dh's suggestions either perhaps just getting him round to your way of thinking is the answer.I'm wondering in my case if that's easier than waiting for him to produce his own shortlist as I have 2 lots of names in my head that I'm getting used to. Also you've said you got a girl's name you agree on, you got there in the end. So you'll do the same for a boy eventually how did you get the girls name? Can you use the same inspiration?

CPtart · 30/05/2014 06:57

I know a Maximus (11)
Lawrence
Evan
Marcus
Dominic
Adam
Isaac

Mrs nec maybe we'll find something but it feels like I've looked everywhere! For Liliana we were watching a film with a character called Lee and my mind went to lily then Liliana and he loved it, as silly as it sounds it felt like it popped into my head so randomly it was the baby help is out :p.
maybe we'll get there, in 3 weeks well know if we need to :p

Good luck! I hope to find out on Monday. My current favourite boys name is inspired by a favourite TV character so nothing wrong with that!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 30/05/2014 11:58

I like luka and Tobias/ Toby but dp says Toby is too cutesy (he's quite a manly man) and Luka is apparently same as luke

Manly man okay how about Magnus or Curt?

Stokey · 30/05/2014 18:07

I glad Durian was a typo!

If you like Victor what about other older boys names? Others that I associate with Victor are:
Sidney
Stanley
Reggie
Vincent
Frank

Alita7 · 30/05/2014 18:13

donkey I like Curt/ Kurt dp says no... and I kind of like Vincent but I hate Vinnie, Vince would be ok on an adult though. DP is again not too keen.

We've been watching sons of anarchy and Abel has been growing on me but again he's not keen. I think he's just very very picky!

BikeRunSki · 30/05/2014 21:45

Kester
Kieran
Dale
Seth
Silas
Jude

Alita7 · 30/05/2014 21:46

I've suggested Jasper and Jude to dp as well but he's extremely picky!

CooCooCachoo · 30/05/2014 21:49

Maxime is currently very popular in France and our likely choice for imminent Anglo/French Ds2.

mum2jakie · 30/05/2014 21:49

Cain? Eli? Zac?

Alita7 · 30/05/2014 22:28

I kinda like Zac but I knew really horrible Zac so I always think of him.

Eli is almost the same as dsd 1s name (also why we can't have Elijah or Elliott).

Getting annoyed that while there's at least 10 names I like enough to use, dp doesn't like them -.-

Jed
Ned
