I have a Dylan but it is getting very popular. when ds started school only one other Dylan in school. 2 years later 3 Dylan's in reception

NickiFury · 20/05/2014 13:55

Neither. I really don't like either of those names.

AndiPandi · 20/05/2014 13:53

depends what you are going for. To me Dylan is a bit common, in every sense of the word. Don't shoot me, it's just my perception and may well be influenced by the people I've met with that name. I don't want to offend anyone that has already called their child Dylan. My own DDs name is often called 'chavvy' on here but I like it. Marcus is a polar extreme and is quite posh in my head.

janie2 · 20/05/2014 13:51

I worked with children and sadly Dylan is not a name I like. But only by association not because its not nice.

Marcus has better associations for me, I only know one!

5madthings · 20/05/2014 13:48

Dylan, also biased as I have one and he got it after the magic roundabout!

He gets called deeby Dylan or deebystar or deebster etc.

squoosh · 20/05/2014 13:42

When I was 11 I thought Dylan was the coolest boys name ever. I'm still quite fond of it.

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo · 20/05/2014 12:51

Dylan by a country mile.

Huntington · 20/05/2014 12:46

Dylan definitely, not hugely keen on Marcus.

Leeds2 · 20/05/2014 12:44

Marcus.

Nocomet · 20/05/2014 09:57

Marcus
Regardless of the stoned rabbit connection, Dylan sounds dopy.

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 20/05/2014 09:54

Both are nice but I prefer Dylan

VinoTime · 20/05/2014 09:52

Marcus Smile It's classic.

I like Dylan, but I actually prefer it as a girls name.

SquirrelledAway · 20/05/2014 09:47

Definitely Dylan on TMR, not Dillon.

forago · 20/05/2014 09:41

10 and good stupid phone!

he is not a 20 year old school boy Smile

forago · 20/05/2014 09:40

Dylan definitely (but am biased :)) only had goof experiences from it. Marcus sounds like an obnoxious estate agent to me.

when I called my son Dylan lots of people older than me did the Magic Roundabout thing. In my experience, nobody has ever mentioned it to him in 20 years and nobody my age or younger has ever heard of the Magic Roundabout (and anyway it was spelt Dillon)

it does get shortened by his mates (like all names) to Dyl, Dyls, Dips (?) and I call him Dilly. Love it as a name and he is the only one in his school with it (southeast)

Bowlersarm · 20/05/2014 09:35

Dylan.

Can't say why. Just much prefer it.

SquirrelledAway · 20/05/2014 09:33

Marcus, for sure.

Dylan always reminds me of The Magic Roundabout.
