Alliteration names?

How does everyone feel about them? The first name we have chosen starts with the same letter as our surname. We've not told any family the name but today names (once again) came up for discussion with family members, and it seemed the general view was names shouldn't have the same letter as the surname.

Just wondered people's opinions. Thanks.

I love love love them! My surname begins with J and DDs DF begins with F. DD has both. I couldn't find a name we agreed on that started with either Hmm

Don't see the issue - think alliterative names sound great! Makes me think of superheroes and characters from books too.

Dd1 has an alliterative name, and her first name has a repeated letter in it too, um, same sort of thing as Bobby Brown. Sounds nice, and she likes it.

We're going for alliteration for our girl. We were against it for our first but we love the name we've picked and actually our first daughter could marry someone and suddenly have a surname with the same letter. I rather like it now. I do think it's distinctive.

My DS has an alliterative name and it's never been an issue. We worried about it before he was born, but once he was out I was amazed at how rarely I actually had to say 'Forename Surname' out loud. He likes it and nobody has ever mentioned the alliteration to us. His first name is quite long though, so the two Rs are well spaced out. Henry H is fine because it has a syllable in between. Hal H might be a bit much though.

My favourite name is Peter but OH's surname is a single syllable P name so would not work. My surname is similar and my poor dad Peter's full name sounds like a certain fictional character who never grew up Confused

Thanks guys :-) I'm feeling a lot better about the Aliteration now. The only other name we like is Oscar, so we'll see what we prefer when he's out but I think it will be Henry.

I don't personally like alliteration names. I had one when I was younger and really hated it. I was so happy when I got married and got rid of the alliteration. I'm quite surprised by how many on here like them so maybe it's just me!

I think Sam Steward is fine bit Sam Sales isn't, Tina Trueman is fine but Tina Tubbs isn't and so on...

My first and last name start with the same letter, it's never bothered me! I have had a few comments about what a "fantastic" name I have and how it sounds like a superhero name. Which then just makes me day dream about being Wonder Woman

I think that sounds like a fine name! Some alliterative names really draw attention to the alliteration but I wouldn't even notice it with that. The different vowel sounds change the pronunciation of the first letter ever so slightly to make it less obviously matchy.

I think it is fine, because the second letters are different, that's what makes it work IYSWIM?

If it were Henry Heppenstall, it would trip over itself. But Henry Famous Detective sounds very distinguished.

Well, the name we have chosen is Henry and our surname is that of a popular detective.

We have our middle names and neither start with H.

I have one but it's more along the lines of Leonora La Grande than Posey Pickles. It's never bothered me but I'm not sure how I'd feel if it was more 'comic book'.
Can you give us a clue as to sound and length?
