Well shes not a Thea, or and Eloise, or a Romilly. Help!!

Silent lurker for about three months, but never posted before.

Four days ago I gave birth to our gorgeous DD. She really is a glorious little babe! Inbetween waiting for the whole world to fall out of my fanjo, for, despite the 12 stitches that feels like what is going to happen, salt baths and twice hourly breastfeeding sessions, we need to think of a name for our beautiful girl.

From 21 weeks, we thought I was giving birth to a Thea Eloise, but she is definitely not. Neither is she a Romilly Alice. Or a Madeleine. Ditto Phoebe. Confused

She is however, a glorious little babe, have I mentioned that already? All pouty lips, button nose, dark hair and big blue eyes. swoon And despite being a breast milk ninja, she has stolen our hearts already.

I have a strong suspicion she could be a Polly Alice, but DP is concerned that mil some people may think its a silly, indulgent name. (Not mil bashing, for the most part, she is great, but a dreadful snob!)

So, what I need from you are your best suggestions for a beautifully vintage, old fashioned or even slightly twee name. Out of the top twenty would be the ideal remit, but not a deal breaker.

I wish I'd been brave enough to call DD Aurora, would probably have used Rory day-to-day. Incidentally, DD is called one of the names in your initial post and we had about half your names on our shortlist.

Marcella (can be Cece like Cecily but is a bit more edgy)

Cecily and Verity are lovely from the pp.

If I'd had a daughter she would have been Leonie.

Can't you give Romilly another try? I really like that from your original names.

We have a Romilly. Marvellous name!

Our alternatives were Seren, Aurelia, and Genevieve. I saw Alba today and love that, I also like Cassia.

I think Cecily would be easier as an adult but Posy is very sweet.

Cecily Alice is yummy.

I always chuck Ada in to threads. I think it's quite fun.

One of my DSs was going to be Christopher, but didn't look like one at birth, so we named him something else. Although I still really love the name which we gave him, 3 years on he looks perfectly like a Christopher to me (and his mop of dark hair gave way to blond curls).

If you love Thea, I would try it for a few days. There are loads of great suggestions on this thread though, in case it won't stick.

Thank you to all and thanks for the congrats! This wee babe was 4 years in the making, so I suppose we are feeling a certain pressure to get the name 'right' (if that makes sense).

I think at the moment it's between Cecily and Polly. DP still loves Thea, but agrees she doesn't ''look'' like one. I am tempted to leave it for a week and come back to it and start calling her Thea to see if it makes a difference. I am reluctant to give up a name that we both love so much.

Your suggestions were all marvellous and I shall be revisiting them all night again. :)

Oh Posy! I adore that name but my DH vetoed it as he likes long names but it's so beautiful!
What about Clementine, Clara, Margot, Viola?? But I love Posy most

Congratulations! Polly is lovely but as it is traditionally short for Dorothy, why not pick Dorothy (will sound better in the boardroom when she is older) and call her Polly at home? Dorothy Alice would be lovely.

We had the same - we had pretty much picked a name before DD2 was born, then she was born, we took one look at her and the name went out of the window. Took us a week to come up with another one.

Out of your names, I'd put Romilly and Eloise together and go for Emily. (happens to be my all-time favourite girls name!)
