Ocean or Oceans?

Which name do you prefer for baby girl or are they too out there? Met baby Ocean and loved the name even though had dismissed it previously when I read it in name book so perhaps works better when said out loud. Thoughts welcome.

I have a friend with a little girl called Oceana

I'm normally a traditionalist with most names but think it's actually lovely and she suits it .

I-she-ana
O

Mutteroo · 13/05/2014 00:20

Oceana is a nightclub where I live & not a good one. Don't like Ocean either sorry

oldiebutnctoday · 12/05/2014 21:48

Saisha/saysha
Knew a lovely girl called Shoshana once, American family, don't know what it means tho

Off the point, rather - and quite agree with you about Osiris - but the Egyptian god's name was originally Set (Seth is a later Greek version of the name, which is sometimes used in English).

Seth is a name from the Old Testament. One of the children of Adam and Eve. Memorably the name of a handsome young man in Cold Comfort Farm.

Indian (Sanskrit) name Usha (oo-sha) means 'dawn'.

There's Osha in GOT....

Think I've got to let this one go.

Oriana or Ariana?

LumpySpacedPrincess · 12/05/2014 20:44

sonlypuppyfat

Good point, well made. Grin

Matilda03 · 12/05/2014 20:41

I used to teach a Nepalese girl called Oshin. Might be strange if you have no connection to Nepal however!

OublietteBravo · 12/05/2014 20:41

...and yet Seth (who did the killing and chopping up) is a popular boys name, and everyone seems to love the name Persephone (queen of the underworld)...

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/05/2014 20:41

Oosha? I've known a few Ooshas, mostly Australian.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 12/05/2014 20:39

Oriel?

sonlypuppyfat · 12/05/2014 20:38

Didn't Sedna get her fingers chopped off? I'd give up on the gods and goddesses.

LittleBearPad · 12/05/2014 20:33

Odessa is also where quite a few people are getting shot at the moment. I'd steer clear if I were you.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 12/05/2014 20:30

Sedna, goddess of the sea?

sonlypuppyfat · 12/05/2014 20:22

Someone suggested Osiris! What god of the dead? Chopped up by his brother, who would think that's a nice name for a little girl.

burgatroyd · 12/05/2014 20:06

Roisin could be a grower... Cheyenne has similar sound but makes me think of pepper

Neither sorry, both sound like a some sort of holiday complex.

Bluestocking · 12/05/2014 19:55

Odessa is a port in Ukraine. Do you think there's a Ukrainian MNetter posting about what a beautiful name Grimsby would be?

Brummiegirl15 · 12/05/2014 19:52

I also think Roisin is fab too though

apermanentheadache · 12/05/2014 19:52

Or Saoirse pn seer-sha.

Brummiegirl15 · 12/05/2014 19:52

Oceana is a shit sleazy nightclub in Birmingham.

Or a P&O cruise liner

Please - just don't

ContinentalKat · 12/05/2014 19:48

I don't like either, what about the French version, Océane? Very popular a little while ago.

apermanentheadache · 12/05/2014 19:48

Roisin would be ace - pronounced Rosheen. Same sort of sound.

burgatroyd · 12/05/2014 19:47

Just checked meaning and first website said odessa means wrathful!

I love Ocean, Oceana makes me think of horrible nightclubs though.
