Is this amount of name alliteration ridiculous?

So am 20 weeks pregnant and don't know the sex yet but would like opinions on our favoured girls name... Clara.

Both DH and I love the name but the problem is our surname - it's the same as Superman's first name! i.e. there's a huge amount of alliteration present.

Does this rule it out? If you heard this name would you think it ridiculous? I alternate between loving Clara so much that I feel it doesn't matter and then worrying we're saddling our baby with a daft name! Help!

Have avoided writing our surname to avoid the whole name being searchable Smile

Grin Everlong, I'm obviously losing my sense of humour after pondering the name for so long!!

The baby will probably turn out to be a boy and then I'll have to start a while new thread anyway! Grin

But if you worry too much about lisps or speech impediments nobody would ever use names with S or L or R in! Grin

The more I say it, the better it sounds actually - it's grown on me already Smile

It has a nice rhythm to it; my first name ends with the same letter that my married surname begins with - that's annoying!

My mother gave me alliterative first and middle names. Then I married a man whose surname began with the same initial. Really frustrating sometimes.

I know of:

2 William Williams
1 Matthew Matthews
1 Evan Evans
2 Thomas Tomlinsons
And 1 which is even more extreme than any of the above but can't say as it would completely out me!

To be honest, nobody ever comments (they do on the extreme one but only once and then it's just accepted)

So although I agree, it is a bit too much- I don't think it sounds appalling. In fact with a nice one syllable middle name I think it sounds quite nice! x

This is nearly me! I'm a Clare though but I have a (unusual) 5 letter surname beginning with C, it's my married name (probably outs self Hmm)

I love it now, I even got a parcel delivered once where the sender had written 'We love your name!' on the envelope.

I have a long middle name too, Elizabeth. Go for it if you love it so much, if I wrote my full name on here loads people would probably say don't do it but it works for me Smile

My dd has a short 5 letter name and a long surname.

Naomi was a contender but then we decided there were other names we preferred, my niece is called Tabitha so that's out, Alice and Florence have also been considered Smile

As far as middle names go we've got as far as deciding that we'd definitely have one but it depends what first name we choose as to what it is.

If I'm honest I'm struggling to let go of Clara Grin and I think that sounds better with a longer middle name, probably one beginning with a consonant.

I love Violet with Letty as a NN - but then wanted to call DD2 that but DP vetoed it Sad

I do think that Clara with your surname might be too much (and it gives her the initials cc - but don't think that's too bad...

PS met a Lara and was surprised by how much I liked the name when previously hadn't really noticed it. Lara is very beautiful and think its stronger name than Clara and would perhaps be the solution

You wouldn't believe it, op, but my dd has same surname as yours and Clara was also consideration. I liked the alliteration but ruled it out because came up with so many more names during 3rd trimester. how about Clarissa or Carla? I would have gone for Coco as a nickname with the double c's in play.
