Jude
Barnaby
Rex
Gene
Francis
Gus
Jonas
Rowan
Claude
Tobias

What do you think? This is DS3 and I really felt that with DS2 we went for something too popular so don't want to have the same regrets and yet my DH would veto anything too outlandish.

Middle name to be either Oliver or William.

Thoughts gratefully received please.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My other two are Samson (Sammy) and Laurence ( Laurie).
My Nan was also called Gene which definitely influences the choice! Although my partner is a little Hmm about it sounding feminine.
I also like Jesse but it's been discounted for that reason..

What are your other boys called??

whitepuddingsupper · 03/05/2014 14:28

My favourites are Jonas and Tobias nn Toby. Not keen on the rest, sorry. Jude is very popular where I am, there are lots of little Judes and I definitely wouldn't use Rowan for a boy.

bouquetofpencils · 03/05/2014 14:17

Gene and Francis are my winners.

Claude doesn't seen very masculine.

badgerknowsbest · 03/05/2014 13:37

I really like the name Claude, guessing I'm in the minority Grin Tobias, Rex and Barnaby are lovely names too.

I just tried Jude Oliver on a friend and asked about the Jules Oliver connection and she said don't be daft nothing like. So that's obviously just me then.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/05/2014 10:12

Jude Oliver yes Mrs Jamie O. So I'll say Jude William.

But Jonas is even more appealing.

Nice shortlist!

AwfulMaureen · 03/05/2014 10:09

Jonas. That is absolutely LOVELY for a boy.

Sparklesandtassles · 03/05/2014 10:07

With Jude Oliver does anyone automatically think Jules Oliver??

ilovebooks what else is on your list? And do you mind sharing your DS1 and DS2 names?

Thanks Tobago, it's good to hear an 8yr old's opinion. I think Jude and Rex are my top two so he has good taste! DH however is not so keen but then he's one of those that suggests very little and yet poo-poo's everything I like....grrrr!

With regards Gene, my grandma passed away a few weeks ago and her name was Jean. We weren't especially close but she was very much head of the family on my side so she is greatly missed. I can't quite work out if this a reason to use the name or not. I really wouldn't want to upset anyone (especially my dad) but then baby not due til Sep so maybe feelings won't be quite so raw by then. I love the name so it's not purely down to the family connection that is on the list!

Not many takers for Claude I see...

Our list for DS3 is almost identical to yours! Top rankers are Gene, Jonah/Jonas and Magnus/Gus.

All lovely names though!

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo · 03/05/2014 09:16

Really like Jude and Tobias.

Just a warning for Gene, DD did swimming with a boy called Gene and he did get teased a bit for his name, so I wouldn't go for Gene on that ground.

Tobagostreet · 03/05/2014 08:22

My 8yo DS (reading over my shoulder) wants you to pick Jude (his friends name) or Rex (cos it's really cool).

HTH! Grin

DillydollyRIP · 03/05/2014 08:09

Love Jude & Tobias.

CrispyFern · 03/05/2014 08:02

I like them all except Rex. Too doggy.

mrssmith79 · 03/05/2014 08:01

Gene Oliver would be my favourite, but I like them all tbh. Not too common but not too outlandish - I like your style!

bakingtins · 03/05/2014 08:00

I really like Jude, Jonas and Tobias.

Gene (jean) Francis (Frances) and Rowan all a bit unisex, if that bothers you.
Rex is a name for a dog, Claude for an old man.

Wishfulmakeupping · 03/05/2014 07:46

I only like Jude and Francis

I think William nn Billy as a first name would be a great option though :)

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 03/05/2014 07:43

Rex

Lannypanny123 · 03/05/2014 07:42

My nephew is Barnaby and we are yet to meet another at playgroup the kids do call him Barn but it sound nicer then I thought and really suits him I love the name xx
