I think it is Aw-ray-lia but mentioned it a friend who said Aw-ree-lia. Just curious...

I know two, one who pronounces it Or-EE-lee-ah and one who pronounces it Ow-RAY-lee-ah. I have also heard Or-AY-lee-ah and Ow-REE-lee-ah so I suspect that the Aurelias of this UK need to be prepared to answer to any vaguely plausible-sounding nama.

TheLastThneed · 02/05/2014 22:15

Your friend's way...

RiverTam · 02/05/2014 22:13

Au-ree-lee-ah

I think this is all a bit post-Gladiator - I studied Latin and classics at A level and Ancient History at uni and until Gladiator I had never heard Marcus Aurelius (Au-ree-lee-us) pronounced the way they do it that film (Au-ray-lee-us, or even Au-rell-us sometimes).

It could be how Spain pronounces it - I know they pronounce Ophelia (O-fee-lee-a) O-fay-lee-a.

NearTheWindymill · 02/05/2014 22:13

Aureeleah I think. I know one and I think that's how her parents say it. With the Aur pronounced as in Aura with a slight Oureeleah emphasis.

AwfulMaureen · 02/05/2014 22:11

It is Or-Ree-Li-Ah.

It IS pronounced that. How you get your pronunciation with that spelling is beyond me.

Or-AY-lee-a

Or-EEL-ee-a sounds all wrong.

Dunwhingin · 02/05/2014 21:44

My daughter is Aurelia we pronounce it like you, like the Latin for golden.
In Italy and Portugal where it's a popular name that is how they pronounce it.
Lovely name choice, my dd gets compliments on it regularly

Like your friend.

Fozzleyplum · 02/05/2014 21:41

I agree with the other posters - the Aurelia I met pronounced it "Or reel ee a".

HandragsNGladbags · 02/05/2014 21:38

Aur-ree-lee-a

Also know one in RL

LaFataTurchina · 02/05/2014 21:36

Aoo-re-li-ah - In an Italian accent, am Italian but have no idea how to go about typing an Italin accent Grin

I really like it for a future hypothetical DD but DP really struggles to say it!

JonathanGirl · 02/05/2014 21:32

Or RELL ee uh.

HenI5 · 02/05/2014 21:32

SanityClause · 02/05/2014 21:28

Dinnaeknowshitfromclay · 02/05/2014 21:20

Aw-ray-lee-ah like the latin for golden.

KatherinaMinola · 02/05/2014 21:19

Aw-ree-lia usually, or Ow-ray-lia if German, but not Aw-ray-lia.

Smartiepants79 · 02/05/2014 21:19

Your way.

BopToTheTop · 02/05/2014 21:19
