We like this name for a girl - but do you say Dah-lee ya or Day-lee ya?

Thanks?

Dah- lie-lah

Thumbwitch · 05/05/2014 13:32

But you're making up a second L where there is none, SM. Which is just wrong.

susiedaisy · 05/05/2014 13:35

Day lee a

Scottishmummy, isn't that Delilah? And not Dahlia.

namechangenumber5 · 05/05/2014 14:12

I'd say dahlia, but I know a daylia, it just sounds weird to me.

beershuffle · 05/05/2014 14:28

You can say it that way, but youd be making it up. Dahlia, one L, you cant make a lie-lah at the end because THAT WOULD NEED ANOTHER L THAT ISNT THERE. Notsure how you can be unclear about that. Confused

Unless of course you think Sarah is pronounced Sair-Rah-Rah. And Jenny is Jen-nen-ny.

Martorana · 05/05/2014 15:44

Dahlia is Day-lee-ah. Or at a pinch Darh-lee-a. Not Del-li-lah. Which is, unsurprisingly, spelled Delilah. What with it having two l-sounds and all.

scottishmummy · 05/05/2014 17:41

Beershuffle, you are of course right, and for some reason I kept reading it as Delilah
I need a zingy cuppa tea or something.and I've no idea why I read and reread as Delilah
So after all that I'd say it as dah-lee-ah

TheScience · 05/05/2014 17:47

I'd say darlia as I thought it came from the name Dahl. Though daylia is pretty too.
