Sibling for Mont,Doll,Herb&Boo

I think middle names in general are a load of old nonsense so I'm ignoring them!

It's not so much the first names as the combination with the middle names, isn't it? Dolly is fine, if not to my taste, and Dot is fine, but Dolly Dot? It sounds like Polly Pocket or Teddy Tumbles. Buster is a rather aggressive-sounding nickname, but coupled with Boo?

Still, not my bailiwick nor my children and I am being facetious and rude with someone else's choices, so I will offer apologies and leave the thread.

I have a fairly unusual Welsh name, although I'm English and have always lived in England. I didn't know of anyone else with the same name until I was in my 30s.

Although I love my unusual name now, when I was at school I longed to be a Julie or a Susan or a Linda. Every time I had to give my name I would have to repeat it, then spell it, then have the teachers/other adults telling me what a lovely, pretty name I had. As a fairly shy child I was mortified.

I was never bullied because of my name, but did have a bit of Mickey-taking from people who thought they were being funny.

I really wish people who give their children very unusual names would just stop for a moment and think about what they will be subjecting their children to when they reach school age. You may think it will be great to have a child with a name no one else has - your child may well think it's the worse thing you could have done for it!

While not being to my taste I think Herbie, Dolly and Monty, names that litter the Telegraph birth announcements, are perfectly fine. To be honest I'm surprised they've created such a stir seeing as vintage names seems almost de rigueur these days.

Buster is a bit different I'll admit but it isn't even the first time I've heard it being used recently so is probably less outrageous than we think.

I'm much happier with a more unusual name than I would be named Sophie L or one of the Emily's. Saying that, I wouldn't judge someone for calling their child Joe/Jack/Amelia, so why should you judge the op. I'm sure her children will be just fine, find some better things to worry about! The Sunny Blue, Boudicca, Seraphine and Ferhat I used to babysit have all turned into cool teens with bags of confidence.

There's no frothing or shouting. Just vague bemusement.

And no she won't change her children's names. But maybe nobody has ever told her exactly what they think? Maybe given the fact that she will be making her future DCS life harder by saddling them with silly names she might reconsider?

OP, last term we had an achievement ceremony at school. We have a family of children with 'themed' names. Do you think the DC don't hear the stifled laughter when their names are called out?

My granda was Herbert, my great gran Dolly, Buster is a NN for Ds and monty is perfectly normal.

A name is a name it's not the person. Kids aren't bullied because of their name. I have one of the most common names of my generation, I was bullied. Granted I also had braces, glasses, was short and pudgy. I was an easy target. If I had more confidence, I am sure I wouldn't have been singled out. That's what's is important in bringing up you children.

Because you've already made your feeling perfectly clear and now you're just frothing and shouting. Her children aren't going to be changing their names anytime soon so there's really no point to your sneering.

There are loads of different names that you would never have heard of in the bygone days. My dd's best friend is called Hoy-Yee. She didn't laugh when they took the register.

Ooh what about Scout - like in To Kill a Mockingbird?

These are names that a child has to live with. Do you think buster won't care on his first day of secondary school when the teacher calls out Buster on the register?

There are thousands upon thousands of names which don't come with a massive neon sign marking someone out for ridicule.
