I'm most of uses MN worse nightmares when it comes to baby names. I understand almost 100% won't like my childrens names and I really don't mind I quite like it in fact that way I know they won't become popular.

You are right about Wendy soontobe. Barry made that up. In fact all names are made up. Perhaps Flash will be in top 100 in fifty years.

No they're not in the same league, they're far more unusual.

Dolly is a totally normal name. The middle name is unusual but no doubt for most of her life she'll be known as Dolly. I fail to see what's so shocking.

I'm not against individual names, I agree that in years to come it will be the norm. People do judge and I guess they probably always have. I am sure when the first Wendys and Justins or whatever etc started to appear in the naming charts, the older generation thought they were weird and that the owners of them would never get jobs.

All the names mentioned on this thread seem to be retro rather than made up as such, i don't think any are really that out there either unless you read them in full and all together.

Forgot to mention Oprah Winfrey whose parents spelt original name wrong on BC. She also refused to change name and hasn't done too badly with her made up name.

If the kids hate name they can always be known by a different one at school.

Dr Pixie Mckenna, in history there was Capability Brown and there's that famous story of brothers Winner and Loser Lane...

Also Peggy used to be very popular. What's the difference between that kinda name and Dolly?

I know a Jane who was bullied with Janus the Anus.

And whether you like it or not it's a fact that in 25 year's time the job market will be saturated with young people with all sorts of weird and wonderful names. A qualified doctor is a qualified doctor whether he's called Thomas or Buster.

Squoosh - normally I would agree but this is an extreme example. I would expect an adult to change that name before entering the employment market! Potential employers judge and discriminate on name whether you like it or not - that's just life.

I never think a name is anything other than a reflection of their parents taste. I don't assume things about people upon hearing their name.

Buster-Boo? That is just cruel, how is he every going to get taken seriously at work? He won't be a child forever you know. Does he have a sensible middle name he can use for professional purposes?

It's not a joke.

I work in a school and the child I've met most troubled by their name is a "Thomas" who is regularly found in tears because someone had called him Thomas the Tank Engine. Many of his class mates have some very unusual names but I have never seen them worried by comments.

ok- i think that if you are going to call your child a name that is 'creative' like this then you should spend a month, before the baby is born, using that name for yourself. you must introduce yourself to new people, book a restaurant with that name , spend some time in a secondary school etc etc

if at the end of the month you still feel that it is a fine name, then go for it.

I think you are being a bit disingenious tbh - the first name (or first half of the name) is perfectly normal/trendy old person style and I've met children called each of those - and it seems like the children are only known by this - personally i'd call them the real name (Montgomery/Dorothy/herbet - i think buster is a full name anyway) and shorten it but to each his own
