Polly? Is it too cutsie?

I am expecting DC2 and my DH and I have struggled to agree on names. For a girl he has recently mentioned Polly. I like it but I worry that people might think it is a bit cutsie. What do other people think?

I know a Polly, in her mid 20's. Nobody thinks of her as being "cutesy".

It's a nice name.

My only issue with it is the children's nursery rhyme which pops into my head without warning on occasion after seeing the name.

I really like it. Sounds cool and retro but not cutsie. Might depend on your surname though.

I love it too. Polly Mae is nice. Just as long as your last name isn't 'gone'or 'thene' or anything that will make her name sounds like a plural of something. I think it's always hard mentioning names before the birth as people for some reason always think they have the right to be so jolly opinionated. They wouldn't dare dispute the name to your face after it's given one baby is born..I have a friend who wouldn't tell anyone her choices for that reason. Stick to your guns OP..it's your dc..you and your partner must decide and stuff what everyone else thinks! I think Jennifer Aniston was a chic and attractive Polly in 'Along came Polly' and it's a lovely name for a little girl.

(and it reminds me of the time I had an argument with my 3yo niece about whether DGF dog was called Holly, or Polly! brought a smile to my face. And I still don't know what the dog is called)

How many syllables does your surname have? I think this makes a difference to the middle name you choose, so that anybody using the full title is able to make her name flow.

I don't generally like frilly or cutsie names but I do like Polly. It sounds more grounded than something like Posy for example.

My dd is a Polly. The only problem is that people constantly mishear it as either Holly or Poppy on first meeting, which she finds a bit irritating. One of her TAs is still calling her Poppy on occasion now, grrr!

I like it, don't think it's cutesy at all. It used to be a NN for Margaret or Mary I think (don't know why).

I like it - although it is similar, for some reason I don't think it is as cutesy as Millie, Tilly, Lilly, Poppy, Molly etc...
