I'm a teacher and have children with a wide range of names at school but I think Destiny and Foreva are the worst. Anyone else come across any other Just No names?

I knew I'd get a reaction. Top ten names are exceedingly dull. I know this thread is meant to sneer at "names we mumsnetters would never call our children such as destiny and chardonnay". But personally I'd never use Charlotte or chloe because they do indicate a lack of imagination. Sorry I'm not following the correct etiquette and declaring how much I despise those awful lower class names because hey, at least they're different.

I really like unusual names (well, not all of them of course, but the majority). But then I'm obsessed by names in general and there aren't very many I really dislike.

I teach in a school where most of the names are pretty mainstream and the majority are probably top 50.

I obviously can't name the few exceptions in each year in a list here but it is refreshing and exciting to get something a bit different. A couple of examples from a few years ago - Asthina, Gavin and Chantelle - one I'd never heard before and two that seemed so out of place among that generation. None of those three names are to my particular taste but I liked that they belonged to that child and that child only.

I quite like Destiny. Similar feel to Verity and co.

My sister has a Christ in her class which must be hard to live up to.

I like Horatio and Memphis, I know a little one and he's gorgeous. His sister is Rafaella. There are tons of unusually named children around here ranging from 'oh that's a bit different' to completely bonkers so people are a bit more open to them and wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Personally I can't get het up about someone's choice to name their child.

I think thats the bit thing Anti- I don't like seeing children with names that they will probably get bullied for, or that they are likely to be annoyed about when they are adults.

Generally I think 'to each their own' about names, but we have one at work that I just makes me Hmm

Reinebeau - the poor girl will spend her whole life saying 'yes my name's rainbow. No you don't spell it that way'.

Not all top ten names were always in the top ten! Some were way down in the top 100 a few years ago!

My own name is now very popular, but I was teased at school for having weird name.

It's not snobbery or anything like that which makes me dislike the name Babe. I just felt uncomfortable calling the child it, as it seems more like a term of endearment than a name, and I wasn't in a position where I should be using terms of endearment towards the kids! I also felt sorry for the child as people did comment on her name, or ask her what her "real" name was - and I can only imagine this will continue throughout her life. I can't imagine CLling my boss Babe, for example!

i wouldn't use a nickname instead of the full name myself unless I really loved the nickname.

I agree on Foreva and Destiny.

'Boo' - not short for anything - just that ...
Maybe ok for a baby - but as an adult? (don't know if they had a middle name they could use though...)
Can you imagine a future Prime Minister being called Boo? or Babe? or Foreva?
I think certain names reduce your DC's choices in life...
Imagine a CV from 'Boo Smith' - pretty sure you will be judged in advance with a name like that - even if only because they thought you'd used your nickname on your cv.

Sad, not fair, but true I think...
On the other hand maybe you would get interviewed because they wanted to see what you looked like? So maybe an advantage...

The whole "mustn't be in the top 20/50/100" crap baffles me, I feel like saying "would you pick a frigging name you like and go with it, already!" Obviously you don't want to be one of 7 in the family or close friends but apart from that, pffft!

A top ten name does not demonstrate "a clear lack of imagination".

It does demonstrate that you like a name and are not so precious that you're mortified if other people also like it enough to call their children the same name.
