I'm a teacher and have children with a wide range of names at school but I think Destiny and Foreva are the worst. Anyone else come across any other Just No names?

We have a Justice at school. An unusual name, not to my taste but whatever. It tickles me because he has no concept of the concept of justice. He is constantly in trouble with the police for reasonably serious events.

The names which I've grown to dislike most now are Ottilie, Clemency, Hecate, Asa because they're so often proffered by people on here who turn their noses up at 'common' or 'chavvy' names.

Now when I hear those names I just think cat's bum mouth tutting in Waitrose.

Chardonnay's a classic - I actually quite like the sound of the word, if I ever get reincarnated as chava I may use it for my daughter

I just don't understand why a parent would inflict one of these contrived names that consigns the child to a lifetime of a) being judged and b) having to spell out their name and correct other people every time it is misspelt or mispronounced. I get wanting to be original and 'different' but hate the random scatterings of for example extra 'a's, 'i's and 'h's added into names. (Usually in no particular order)

I knew a little boy called Randy. Definitely a 'just no'.

It's a very common name in the US... DH had a colleague who had no idea why introducing himself with a warm 'Hi, I'm Randy' might not always be a good idea in the UK.

I am an ex teacher, and I used to love the name Daniel. I taught for several years in East End in the 90's. Daniel was a very very popular name, at least 2 in every class, and it completely put me off the name for life.
Shame as it is still a great name.
Of course teachers have opinions. We don't judge the kids, but certain names do end up 'feeling' different.

My youngest dc is named after a child I taught. I used to think this name was quite serious, but I taught a little ray of sunshine that changed my view of this name, so it became a favourite. So it works both ways.

To me it is the name that will cause a child to be picked on, or spend their whole life explaining that I think are sad.

There is a Sodapop in my friend's daughter's class. I know it's from a cult book/film but it is still too much.

I find these threads entertaining tbh. What always makes me laugh are the hypocrites who label people snobs etc..for commenting on those who do not like certain names and then themselves criticize people for naming their children so-called "boring" names!! Don't you see that you are just as bad, judging people for their name choices.

The ones my dp dislikes are vast and varied everlong, very much influenced the children/teenagers he has taught.

But rarely the stereotypical ones that people merrily trot out eg Jayden.

As it goes I like Jayden. Prefer the original biblical spelling Jadon but same difference, it sounds the same.

Fwiw my dp is a teacher (don't have to believe me Grin) and has indeed been put off names by children he has taught.

Not the stereotypical ones either.

But I suppose this thread isn't quite about the same thing.

It's taking the piss out of the parents really.

Kid has a dodgy name and the general consensus is "poor child".

Besides this the Internet, just because someone says they are a teacher doesn't mean it's true.
