Final 5!

Hi all

DH and I have finally narrowed it down to 5 names. Middle name will either be William or Jack depending which first name we chose

Alexander
Adam
Thomas/Tommy
Timothy
Jonah. We know this is a bit of a marmite name. We both like Joe, but not too keen on Joseph and feel joe by itself is a bit "incomplete". I've loved Jonah for a few years now and it's really grown on DH.

Thanks in advance for any input :) x

Jonah is my favourite ... in theory BUT sadly I got too put off its meaning as a bringer of bad luck to use it myself for DC2.

Wikipedia explains:

A long-established expression among sailors uses the term "a Jonah" as meaning a person (either a sailor or a passenger) whose presence on board brings bad luck and endangers the ship. Later on, this meaning was extended to "a Jonah" referring to "a person who carries a jinx, one who will bring bad luck to any enterprise."

Love Adam and am rather fond of Timothy. Hate Jonah.

NightCircus · 17/04/2014 17:09

Love Alexander
Like Thomas
Quite like Jonah
Dislike Adam
Really dislike Timothy

alizeeod · 17/04/2014 17:01

Thomas! All the Toms I know are lovely!

MerryMarigold · 17/04/2014 14:21

I instantly thought Jonah out of those. Alexander is good too.

Adam, depends where you live. There's more Adams than Olivers in dc's school. We live in a Muslim area, so some are Muslim and some are not.

RuthlessBaggage · 17/04/2014 14:18

I should add - Adam is always top 50, even top 20, yet we hardly ever encounter any. It's uncanny Confused

Haahoooo · 17/04/2014 12:50

I really like Adam. Quite uncommon now I think. And versatile - would suit all sorts of boys / men iyswim.

RuthlessBaggage · 17/04/2014 12:12

Anything but Jonah, sorry. Too whiney.

I have an Adam and have only ever had strongly positive comments. Unlike most well-known boys' names, we never meet any others.

MissUumellmahaye · 17/04/2014 12:10

Of your list I only like Jonah, it's lovely. I also like Judah.

minipie · 17/04/2014 12:08

Ooh, I like all of those

In order of preference:

Alexander
Adam
Timothy
Jonah
Thomas

MummyBeerest · 17/04/2014 12:04

Jonah William is a name that commands respect.

TKKW · 17/04/2014 12:01

timothy and joseph are the ones i like least. just too dated although i know they are classics, alexander and adam are my favourites- a lot of adams and alex s that are my age (early 30s) and i when im at toddler groupe and i hear these names, still love them.

RiverTam · 16/04/2014 22:30

Adam

RoseberryTopping · 16/04/2014 22:26

I love Jonah but the bad luck/destroyer connections really put me off.

Thomas would be my favourite off your list.

Timmy is my least favourite.

Surf25 · 16/04/2014 21:19

Love Jonah

Like Alexander too, but not as much as Jonah!

squoosh · 16/04/2014 21:15

I like Jonah. However any of the others are 1000 times better than Timothy!

Final 5!
Martorana · 16/04/2014 20:55

Are you not bothered by the associations of Jonah? Shame, because it's a lovely name.

Timothy is fab- I haven't met a Tim under about 45, so unusual. Ditto Adam.

I would go for Timothy.

Yama · 16/04/2014 20:52

I love Alexander.

Jonah is quite nice - I think it would grow on me.

Not keen on the others.

PreciousPeach · 16/04/2014 20:50

I love love love Jonah but do not like Joe so personally would not use it for that reason. But since you like Joe then it would be a great name for you!

DramaAlpaca · 16/04/2014 17:27

I like them all so I'm not much help Smile

Rtfairy · 16/04/2014 17:25

Alexander or Thomas

CPtart · 16/04/2014 16:43

My fave is Adam because I have one.
Alexander next, Jonah is ok.
Dislike the others.

SoonToBeSix · 16/04/2014 16:36

Jonah by miles

Lucked · 16/04/2014 16:35

Alexander is my favourite with a soft spot for Timothy which I agree is underused at the moment.

My least favourite is Adam.

LettertoHermioneGranger · 16/04/2014 16:31

I'm on the totally loving Jonah side. Jonah William is a wonderful strong name.

All the other names are good, they're a bit interchangeable, I don't have preferences between any of them, they're all classic typical names. Nothing your son will stand out for having, and all he can grow into a man with.

Good list. Have you considered waiting until he's born and seeing what "fits"?
