One of the names me and my husband love for our baby if it is a girl is Persephone. However we are struggling with the middle names.

We need two or three middle names. These can be English names or Classical Greek.

I am open to suggestions.

And you are clearly uneducated as any properly educated person wouldn't DREAM of randomly selecting Greek names together like you are planning (plus you didn't get the kitto ref, which is amateur)

Others - I asked (one of) my pennys how the nn came about...and she said it was because SHE XOULDNT PRONOUNCE PERSPEHONE until she was about 9. At which point I howled with laughter

OP seems a bit sneery of the middle classes. Bizarre that she's seeking out the opinions of the great unwashed to begin with, she might see names that she deems as MC or even - gasp - WC names mentioned on this thread.

OP I have thought about it and I suggest Persephone Tyffani.

OP, do you like Selene, Metis or Erato? Just a few others, I was mulling over... How about Dione? Or Olympia? I'm not sure they'd all go with Persephone Marina, but thought I'd throw them into the mix.

Personally, I think you could use Persephone Marina Eleni...

I'm not a Persephone fan, but I LOVE Marina and Xanthe, so my suggestion would be:

Persephone Xanthe Marina Double-Barrell

And learn to write small. Smile

Back to names.
With the Greek theme have you considered Hera?

Hero (as in Much ado about Nothing) sounds strange as a girl's name today.

I also wondered about all the comments about shortening names. In my family we use the full name almost all of the time. My daughter has a 4 syllable name and we manage to say the whole word without too much trouble!

If you name her Persephone that is what I expect to call her, if you wanted her to be called Penny or Percy than you would give her that name?

I like Persephone, but it does feel a bit pretentious to me. You have to have the right attitude/surname for it. I love Hero for example, but doesn't work at all with our stupid double barrelled surname (all OH's fault, my original surname is lovely and goes with anything). I have some sort of friends who have three children with greek names, and they're quite insouciant about it, which works for me. Hector seems to be super popular at the moment too. Sometimes with double barrelled names, an extra middle name balances things out. I pushed for another one for both our two, but OH was very unkeen, so I dropped it.

Was going to post this ^^, but having read the last few posts, I may slink away. You know, being a pushy middle class type.

Do you think the OP meant 'utmost' in the post above?

I've got two degrees and a post grad and didn't know how to pronounce Persephone until mumsnet Personally, I am from a wc background but I went to uni with many uc people and I used to work for a duke and I managed never to meet a Persephone. Lots of Isabella's though.

My opinion is that it needs shorter middle names. I do like Marina Helen.
