Jane as a first name

I'm loving Jane at the moment. Do you think Jane Eyre, Jane Austen or Plain Jane Superbrain?

Also struggling with a middle name as everything sounds back to front e.g. Jane Emily should be Emily Jane, Jane Laura should be Laura Jane.

Surname is 2 syllables, begins with P. Older sister is a Sarah. We're not exactly adventurous.

Any thoughts?

I rather like Jane, and it would be much more original nowadays to use it as a first name than a middle name. Personally I'm not keen on the Jayne spelling as the only one I've known at all well was rather spiteful - and I tend to prefer more traditional spellings anyway.

Middle names of some Janes I've known:

Jane Elizabeth/Elisabeth (more than one of these)
Jane Frances
Jane Diane
Jane Caroline
Jane Lois
Jane Eleanor

I like it. It was quite common when I was young but it's very rare now and a lovely change from all those girly, twee names that have been so popular of late.

Jane is awfully drab and dull. You seem to keep resurrecting zombie threads about the dullness of Jane.

Jane is a wonderful name! And it is hardly dull! Everyone I know named Jane is creative, bubbly, and cheerful, and I love how old-fashioned it sounds, yet still very chic. Middle names are optional, but here are some suggestions:
If the last name is more than one syllable, then Jane Ann, Jane Claire, or Jane Kate would work (or any other one-syllable name). A one syllable last name would flow better with a longer syllable name: Jane Winter, Jane Callie, Jane Summer, Jane Emmie, etc.

Oh dear. Jane and Emma are my top two names at the moment. Apparently to some they are 'boring'.

Personally I couldn't care as I have a 4 syllable surname so can hardly use Seraphina or Madeline Hmm.

Love it - my daughter's middle name. Wanted to call her Janie but hubby not keen on a 'nickname' as a first name so we settled for it as a middle name
Cannot understand at all why it is considered boring.
I think it is a strong classic name

I like it too - everyone will be able to pronounce it when they see it written, most people will spell it right, yet it's not been much used in the last 30 years or so, so she'll have the bonus of being the only one Smile

I had a boss called Jane once. She hated her name and could never understand why her father named her Jane Ann. Just how boring is that?

I've never taught a single Jane, so she'd be unique.

I only know one adult Jane, and she's in her 50s.

I find it incredibly dull.

But I don't like Sarah,Emma or Anna either which it fits with.

Hmmm I like plain names but Jane is just a bit too plain for me, like John for a boy, just the ultimate "anonymous" names.

Janie is sweet as a nn though.

How about Jean? Still plain and simple but has a slight quirky rebellious air to it.

If you do go with Jane I agree it needs a longer middle name. Jane Elizabeth, Jane Abigail, Jane Cecilia.
