My Mum was going to call me Sophia.

My Dad vetoed it with my big sisters but I would most likely name my little girl Sophia if I had another little girl.

I've got a Sophia, so am obviously very biased. It was a name I had loved for years & have never fallen out with it but it seems to be a lot more popular in recent years.

She sometimes gets Fee or Fee-a (pn) for short.

I find sophia /sophie sound rather different from each other.

If it makes any difference there are no Sophies but three Sophia's in DD's reception class. Not saying that's usual, but maybe Sophie would be less popular?

Lots of sophias around at the moment. I like it but think it might date to this period as one that rose in popularity and goes again.

Sophie seems more timeless but there's a few of those about too!

Sophia always sounds like so-fear to me.
Plus now it reminds me of that annoying Sophia Grace from Essex, who was on Ellen being super precocious. Ugh.

Bollocks to blending in! If you are from 'the continent' then I would be quite sad you decided against using Sofia, which would be the normal spelling in continental Europe. I think it would be nice for your DD's name to reflect her heritage and you can do that in the spelling.

But if you really want to blend in then I would go for Sophia over Sophie. Sophie is very classic English to me, whereas Sophia at least has a European feel to it even if the spelling has been anglicized.

If I picture the two names, I think of Sophie as a pretty little girl with blonde curls.

I picture Sophia as a sophisticated and elegant grown up.

What about Sophia, shortened to Sophy like 'The Grand Sophy'?

Sophia. Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria to me. Sophie is popular. Sophia is a now name.
