ELCS today.
Having a baby girl. Need a short easy to spell name but want something unusual and a strong with a mythical or literary link.
Shortlist consists of (after much much discussion):
Hero
Isis
People being very sniffy about both choice but past caring frankly.
Which name do I go with?

congrats OP! Flowers

love the name

DiscoBiscuits · 03/04/2014 12:36

We called her Isis.
She's delicious, 7lb 3oz of lovely strong angry cuddley gorgeousness.
Thank you all so much for your help and suggestions.

Isis. Good luck and congratulations.

AngelaDaviesHair · 03/04/2014 11:21

I prefer Hero, but Hera is even better.
Good luck today.

chillychicken · 03/04/2014 11:20

Isis. Stunning name.

MerryMarigold · 03/04/2014 11:07

Math, I wanted Charis for my dd, but it got slated on here. Went off it Sad. I still like it, but it wouldn't really suit her anyway.

mathanxiety · 02/04/2014 21:21

And Charis.

mathanxiety · 02/04/2014 20:53

Hope all is going well.

Want to suggest
Cleo
Eirene

ImpOfDarkness · 02/04/2014 20:33

Second curveball: Vashti

Isis is lovely. Hero, although I know it's a girls name, sounds too masculine to my ear.

I agree with the suggestions of Juno. Other literary, strong names: Lyra? Ishtar?

Hope all went well! Enjoy getting to know your little one, whatever you name her. Smile

ImpOfDarkness · 02/04/2014 17:27

I'll throw Aphra into the mix if it's not too late!

ExitPursuedByABear · 02/04/2014 17:09

Well. What did you choose?

Rexandralpf · 02/04/2014 17:07

Iona

Rexandralpf · 02/04/2014 17:06

Love both

tznett · 02/04/2014 11:41

Isis

minipie · 02/04/2014 11:39

Isis for me too. Never liked Hero for a girl despite the Shakespeare "validation". Congratulations OP.

Other suggestions (not that you asked Grin)

Hebe
Ruth
Tess
Scout
Isolde

MerryMarigold · 02/04/2014 11:35

You must have a baby now! I prefer Isis. Hero sounds a bit 'sleb'ish for me.

phlebas · 02/04/2014 11:30

I love Hero & think it is a great name, unfortunately most people seem to think it's a boy's name. Isis is lovely though :)

findingherfeet · 02/04/2014 10:47

Isis is so pretty! Fraid I also really dislike hero... Good luck and congrats Grin

MrsCosmopilite · 02/04/2014 10:33

I know an Isis. She is startlingly intelligent and incredibly friendly. A perfect 'role model' for the name.

When I was pregnant I really liked the name Lilith, as she was a bit of a kick-ass lady, but in the end, decided DD didn't suit the name.

My list also had the following:
Ilana (Hebrew - means 'tree')
Inara (Arabic - means 'ray of light')
Seren (Welsh - means 'star')
Shanti (Sanskrit - means 'Peace/tranquility) and
Zahra (Arabic - means 'Brilliant/bright)

Mouldypineapple · 02/04/2014 10:29

Isis definitely. Hero sounds like a boys name and a lot to live up to!

CommanderShepard · 02/04/2014 10:23

Isis. I'd have loved Isis for DD.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/04/2014 10:23

Hero
