Which one is best for a girl...

Baby is due in 6 weeks, we don't know the sex. If it's a boy he will be named George Stanley after my grandad and DP's dad. We are really struggling with girls names though! We are certain that Grace will be the middle name but can't decide on the first name, here's our shortlist:

Evelyn Grace
Amelia Grace
Emilia Grace
Emily Grace
Poppy Grace
Lily Grace

Surname starts with B and ends in N so goes well with them all. Which one do you prefer? I'm verging towards Evelyn, just hope it's not too old fashioned?

TIA Smile

Lily or Evelyn

BlueStarsAtNight · 30/03/2014 09:58

I think Evelyn is very pretty (though I pronounce it Eve-lyn- if different pronunciations will annoy you then avoid it!). I'm not a huge fan of Evie though. Plus I don't like having first and surnames ending in the same sound, so Evelyn Burton sounds clunky to me.

From your list, Emily or Amelia flow best with the surname I think.

Emubaby · 29/03/2014 22:16

I have an Evelyn (Ev- ur- lyn) We are always getting comment on how beautiful her name is. Never met another Evelyn.

DiamondsAndRust · 29/03/2014 14:09

I like Evelyn best - pretty, lots of good potential NNs and by far the least common. Second pick would be Emilia (but it risks continual confusion with Amelia)

Evelyn

I know 2 small (u5) Amelias nn Millie

Evelyn is the least common of the others but Eva/Evie/Ava abound!

Littlevideo · 27/03/2014 18:39

Missed Emily completely think that would be first choice and Evelyn second

Rtfairy · 27/03/2014 17:45

I love Lily, Poppy and Emily.

Marcipex · 27/03/2014 17:13

I don't dislike Evelyn, but nearly all of the many many Evie's in school are named this.( One is Evangeline)
If that's doesn't bother you it's a nice name.

Beanypip · 27/03/2014 17:07

evelyn was our front runner for ages but is now dd2s middle name. so shes anna evelyn.

dd1 is emily.

Evelyn and emily are both gorgeous names Grin

alita7 · 27/03/2014 16:47

how do you say Evelyn? eve Lin or ev - el - lin

Bowlersarm · 27/03/2014 16:45

Aww, Lily Burton. Lovely name.

Doctorbrownbear · 27/03/2014 16:37

I don't like evelyn unlike every other poster. So I will be different and whacky. I like poppy, amelia and lily. Evelyn is like a granny name and also quite american. I hate it.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 27/03/2014 16:31

Evelyn.
I think it's less mainstream without being too out there and it seems a very elegant name to me.
For some reason it makes me think of women like Audrey Hepburn, but it's one of those names which will adapt for a little one and still be good for an adult.

Hullygully · 27/03/2014 16:31

What about Avealine? Due a comeback. Avealine Grace

Mrsfluff · 27/03/2014 16:29

Evelyn is lovely, definitely the nicest on the list.

ThatBloodyWoman · 27/03/2014 16:28

Evelyn.
Without a shadow of a doubt.

Weegiemum · 27/03/2014 16:26

Evelyn is nice. There's also the less-common Eveline which I like better.

Nocomet · 27/03/2014 16:25

Eevelyn was my unbelievably boring great aunt (DD1 is named after my intelligent, entertaining, ex teacher great aunt, so I have nothing against all great aunts).

Lesleythegiraffe · 27/03/2014 16:15

Lily, Amelia. Emilia and Poppy are becoming very popular.

Don't like Evelyn, particularly if pronounced Eevelyn - too old-ladyish

I really like Emily

Nades84 · 27/03/2014 16:10

Lily was always the name I had picked if I ever had a girl but for some reason now I'm not sure? Don't know if it's because it's really popular now? Same as when I had DS, Aidan wasn't common 13 years ago but now they're everywhere!

Baby will be having DP's surname which is Burton Bowlersarm so it's not exactly uncommon!
