What do you think of this little girls' name?

Vera? I am due end of May and had not even considered it but I was watching a movie with Vera Farmiga last night and it just jumped out at me. I've been quite a fan of her's anyway for a while but had never really thought about her name. My friend asked me what the name of the actress is so I replied and as soon as I did I thought "wow...Vera!" and my hubby agreed.

Any thoughts? Middle name would almost definitely be Kate or Katherine.

I like it. I don't get mumsnet at times - maude is loved but vera not?

Elvira/elvera is very pretty.

Hmmm, not sure. Don't hate it but don't particularly like it either. It's short for Veronica, how about that?

My nans name was Vera. She hated it herself. She died whilst I was pregnant with dd and I wanted to honour her memory but I remembered my mum telling me how much nan hated the name and said not to name any child after her. I used her middle name for dd's middle name instead.

I quite like it. It's very granny chic which seems to be in. I've met quite a few Elsie's and Edith's and Mabel's so why not Vera?

It's OK, I'd probably go for Elvira or Verona, with Vera as nickname. If you love it then use it though - doesn't matter about us!

alita7 that's sort of the "trend" at the moment, "old lady" names! I agree it is old fashioned but I don't think it's nearly as "old ladyish" as some names that are cropping up here and there

Lovely. Very classic and elegant. I too am a fan of Vera Farmiga's and she always comes across so beautifully in interviews. I know it's a bit strange but I also think Vee is a cute nickname. I have a friend called Vivian who has been known affectionately as Vee for years and always thought it was nice. Lovely choice!

I really like it. Either in its own right or as a shortened version of Verona which is also really pretty imo
