Emilia or Caitlin?
Our surname begins with a hard C and also has a double LL in it and we can't decide if we like the double C beginning or not. Plus I'm scared that Caitlin would get shortened to Cate or Catie, whereas I wouldn't mind Emilia being shortened to Em.
We had been set on Caitlin until this morning and now we're all confused again!!!

I prefer Emilia, you could also spell Caitlin - Kaitlyn this is how my sisters is spelt x

Newgoldheelsrock · 24/03/2014 12:59

The fact that Caitlin is now an Americanised pronunciation of the Irish name irrationally annoys me.

So, Emilia.

Emilia

I personally love caitlin. It's my best friend's sisters name. She's a really fun, adventurous, outdoorsy yet very pretty and sophisticated girl. She gets Caits quite a lot. But kate/cate is one of my favourite names so that wouldn't bother me at all. Also if you're concerned about CC how about spelling it with a k? I do much prefer C but would be a way around it

Emilia does seem to be popular & one baby in our baby group is constantly being called Emily by mistake. The mum of Emilia rolls her eyes every week & says she always gets called Emily. It is a really pretty name but I do prefer Caitlin.

Caitlin

alita7 · 23/03/2014 09:49

Emilia but it is popular, but I don't like caitlin

ThreeBecameFour · 23/03/2014 08:33

Emilia is very popular. I vote Caitlin.

BikeRunSki · 23/03/2014 08:23

The baby Caitlin I know is nn Kitty
The baby Emilias I know (2 of them) are nn No-Emilia-with-an-E-not-Amelia-with-an-A

maggiethemagpie · 23/03/2014 08:20

Emilia is nicer than Caitlin. If it were me I would shorten it to Millie as a nn, which is also nice.

Tea1Sugar · 23/03/2014 06:46

My dd2 is due in 3.5 weeks and is going to be Emilia. I love it!

HumTeach1012 · 22/03/2014 22:11

I teach in a secondary school and all the Caitlin's that I know/remember don't have it shortened or a nick name. X

Emilia.

sandberry · 22/03/2014 20:40

Emilia. I know it is acceptable to pronounce Caitlin like Katelyn now but I still think it is wrong.

AmysTiara · 22/03/2014 20:28

Emilia

peppapigmustdie · 22/03/2014 20:16

She is now 14, not dead. Just realised how that read!

peppapigmustdie · 22/03/2014 20:15

I have a Caitlin (or had) from the age of 9 she called herself Cat. Never got called Caity or Cait.

missmargot · 22/03/2014 20:11

I prefer Emilia, however Amelia is very popular at the moment and you may find people mishearing and assuming she is called Amelia. Would that both you?

BikeRunSki · 22/03/2014 20:03
