Just been out with dh discussing name options for baby due next week.

We have settled on a boys name and backup but finding girls much harder - down to three.

They are:

Lara
Anna
Cordelia

Which would you pick? I'm a little worried Cordelia is a mouthful with our surname but dh is quite keen on it.

Any middle name suggestions welcome too!

Lara and Anna are both beautiful, Cordelia not so much.

bluebelle2662 · 17/03/2014 11:16

I don't like Lara. Anna is my name and I have to say I don't like it particularly, Annabel(le) is much prettier. No-one ever gets my name right, it's always Hannah or Ann, both of which I hate. Cordelia is nice but a mouthful.

Sorry, that's so unhelpful. Anna or Cordelia.

I love Lara Juliet, and Anna Cordelia is fabulous too.

Sorry, no help..

RedSpringer · 17/03/2014 00:40

Love Anna x

Caramelle · 16/03/2014 23:47

I like Anna the best. Very pretty and feminine.

Cordelia would remind me of Angel and Buffy too much (and everyone did call her Cordy).

BlackberryandNettle · 16/03/2014 21:23

We really like all 3 still but will wait until we meet the baby! Front runner right now Anna Cordelia if we have a girl but we shall see. Really liked the Anne of Green Gables books but the connection hadn't occurred to me before!

Love Anna. I see you like Juliet as a middle name. Why don't you elevate it to first name status?

Cordelia is nice.

Don't like Lara.

pencilsharpener · 16/03/2014 16:16

I love Anna.

If you like Cordelia, you might also like Coralie (pronounced Coral - ee) which to my ears is slightly softer-sounding . NNs: Corrie, Cara, Cora.

Perissa · 16/03/2014 13:00

Really love Cordelia, it's my cousin's name but she is shortened to Dilly. Her sister is Eleanor which I love even more.

Bowlersarm · 16/03/2014 12:56

Lara is lovely.

Anna is fine.

Not sure about Cordelia.

Leeds2 · 16/03/2014 12:52

Fave is Anna. Then Lara.
Don't really like Cordelia.

Fwiw, I volunteer in a girls' primary school, and there are no Annas or Cordelias, and just one Lara, so I don't think any of the names are overly popular at the moment.

Allalonenow · 16/03/2014 12:45

I like Cordelia best, a lovely name.
I would not have another name ending in A as a middle name.

Armadale · 16/03/2014 12:39

Cordelia nn Cora is beautiful, I think.

DH and I are thinking about it, but we are a bit worried about the Lear connotation, lovely character but it ends so badly for her we are a bit Confused about whether we should use it.

SimplySara · 16/03/2014 12:35

I like Cordelia with it shortened to Cora or Dee. I prefer Cornelia slightly more because you get both Cora or Nell as possible nn.

As for having no comtrol over the nn, I'm not so sure on this argument against longer names. I think the family has a huge influence on the nn, the only person who influences it more being the child and if the child wants to take on a nn so be it. Thats one of my main reason for giving names with "options", so the child has some influence over what they would like to be called as they grow up.

MrsBungle · 16/03/2014 11:18

I think Anna is dull.

I like Cordelia and really like Lara

Anjou · 16/03/2014 11:13

Cordelia with nn Cora. Definitely. So, so pretty but not overly flowery. Smile

CleverOl10 · 16/03/2014 09:27

My sister is Anna Lucy which is pretty.

CPtart · 15/03/2014 17:09

Lara
Anna

Cordelia

hunreeeal · 15/03/2014 17:01

I like Lara (especially if short for Larissa), and Anna.

I don't like Cordelia, sorry.

MummyBeerest · 15/03/2014 14:16

All of these names are pretty!

Could you not keep your shortlist and then wait until you see the baby? I did this with DD-ended up using 2 of the 3 names we went in with.

Anna Cordelia is beautiful. So is Cordelia Anna. I love Lara too, but not combined with Anna.

{No help whatsoever}

GimmeDaBoobehz · 15/03/2014 14:11

yy to Anna Cordelia, sounds beautiful and was just about to suggest that.

Lara is nice but I just don't feel the same passion for it as Anna. Plus Anna is timeless. When she's little she can be Annie, when older she can be Anna and she could be Anne if she wanted to as well.
