My next-door-neighbour accused me of stealing her baby's name. My DS3 is Heath, now she is thinking of Keith

In my head, the name Keith is always said a la Alison Steadman from 'Nuts In May' shows age.

Please tell her how awful Keith is OP! How is she even aware of it? Watching reruns of Cheggers Plays Pop?! shows age again.

DD would have been Heath if she'd been a DS.
Keith though? Lol. Do try and explain it to her if she's not British.
My non-Western colleague just had a baby Roger. Unfortunately they didn't discuss names first, so it was too late to warn them it has another meaning that they won't be aware of.

My BiL is called Keith. He's 40 ish.

A neighbour also accused me if stealing her baby names. Except I had no kids at the time. But apparently I stole her names and gave themto my dogs. My digs are older than her children and I didn't know her when I named them Confused She's moved away now. Perhaps she's now OP's neighbour?

Apologies to all named Keith but it is just a dreadful name.

I went to school with a Keith who would now be 40/41 (maybe it is Loueytb3's DH!). It was a bit of a comedy name even then.

My DH is called Keith. He's only 40. Just to say its not all 60-70yr olds. I wouldn't be calling any son of mine (and I have 3) Keith though.

Reminds me of a friend (not English) who wanted to call her son Nigel. Thankfully we managed to dissuade her on the back of comparing it (unfavourably) to names she didn't like.

My ex partner's son was called Keith. He was 16. It really didn't suit him AT ALL! Who calls a baby Keith? It's like calling a baby Cyril.

Hmm.

Try her with a few place names instead? Throw her off the Keith scent and tell her it's the trendy American thing to do.

My father was Keith. He'd be 74 now. But he's been dead for 25 years. Thank god. Funnily enough I despise the name. Can't think why.

My dh had Clive and Brian on his shortlist of names for ds1. Eight years on and I'm still not entirely sure whether he was joking or not. He seemed really hurt when I laughed out loud and said 'Ha-dee-ha ha' very sarcastically...

You didn't steal the name it's different and you had it first?!

This just gave me a flashback to a reading comprehension when I was about 6 with a frog called Keith in...

Tell her that you won't be next door neighbours forever and she should stick with Heath. I know a couple of E European boys called Kevinas, so Keith, Kevin type names are not unheard of on littluns.

One of my favourite people is called Keith. He is in his 60's though. 2 thoughts:

  1. how can you have stolen her name if you have not discussed it and your baby is already born (congrats btw and Heath is a fab name) and
  2. Jaroslav, Magda and.....Keith Grin

My dad's name is Keith, he's nearly 70. Even he thought it was a terrible idea when tactful Dd suggested it for dc2!

I'm probably totally missing the point here, but was the most obvious answer to her not something along the lines of 'but Heath is not the same name as Keith'.

Is she concerned that they rhyme?

I wouldn't choose Keith
But it is similar to Keir which is nice and it has to me a bit of a Scottish cragginess about it.
Heath is lovely, very romantic.

Oh God. Keith. Keith was the name of my first ever hamster when I was a kid, and even then it was intended to be ironic.

I know several lovely Keiths, but none under the age of 60. It's just not come back into fashion yet.

Still, at least the chances of someone "stealing" the name Keith from her are pretty low.
