I really love this name, should DC3 turn out to be DS3. Does it work for life though, do you think? As a baby, child, teen and adult?

I know a little Beaumont. He is known as Beau, but I think it could also naturally shorten to Monty.

Withnail for me too. and I'm not sure I would want to inflict that association on my child, but maybe I'm a bit odd.

My DS3 is called Monty Grin DrankSangria, I hope I am not the horrible woman Blush. He's not Montgomery or Montague though which still irks me Not because I like either of those names (I really don't which is why we didn't use them) but because the idea of giving a name which isn't a proper name made me antsy. But nothing else on the list suited him. Gabriel and Magnus were other options and I still wonder whether he could have pulled off Wilfred. Lots of people say they really like it. Although I guess that if people didn't then they wouldn't say anything.

I bloody love it! It is a brilliant name. We wanted to use it for expected DS - but DS turned out to be DD!
I think it's a name that works as a baby, child, teen and a grown up (think it's quite cool and sexy actually!).

I know a few dogs called Monty which tends to put me off it as a name for a boy. Also know a few dogs called Cassie - but no little girls.

For those saying it doesn't suit an grown man, Monty Don seems to suit it very well in fact his name makes him more interesting in my opinion!

I see what you mean, Mama. I will give it some thought, but suspect that we would either plump for Monty as it is, or not use it at all if we felt it didn't suit all ages. Can't really think of a name that it could be a derivative of that I also like....

Like I said I'm not a fan of the long name on the birth certificate approach, it's a rule I've broken myself because I think its ridiculous. However I was just trying to come up with a way you could use Monty when it suits, because in my opinion and clearly quite a few others, it really doesn't suit all ages.

yes it is a bit 'wet' sounding tbh - also i cannot hear the name without recalling this ghastly infant school mother with a fake post accent and how she used to pronounce it.

I am quite surprised at the number of "wet" comments. I had expected people to say they didn't like Monty but hadn't thought of it being wet for some reason. Very interesting!

It appears not to be a popular name on here, which doesn't bother me as I know it only matters what OH and I love. It is interesting to hear differing opinions though.

I have to say Monty does sound great with our surname too!

It's not necessarily my top favourite, but it is a name OH and I both like and have considered before for DS1 and DS2.

I do sometimes wonder if someone has a name it does just grow with them, simply because it's their name, even if at face value it doesn't seem a child's/grown up's name or whatever? Eg I think of Daisy as cute for a little one but not a grown up lady name, but if I met an adult Daisy I'm sure I would just accept it as her name.

Ps I love Cassie too!

No it doesn't work at all ages IMHO. Perhaps when they're at the chubby baby/toddler stage,and elderly,but for a teen/grown man it jut sounds utterly wet and ridiculous.

Hi there, I love the name Monty. I had a lovely uncle called Monty, and is on my name list if I have another ds. I think it is very traditional and very smart. It's up to you what to call him, better than a new age name like 'Safire river sky' or some such like!! ?? Having such a lively name will put him in good sted for jobs etc too! Imagine a very dashing doctor introducing himself to you as ... 'Hello, I'm Dr Monty Burdell, lovely to meet you!! (Please insert your own surname!!). Just go for it if you love it!!

I'm sure I've said this before on mn but to a certain generation of us there was only one Monty and he was the dog, who wore glasses Grin

Alas that generation are going to be your sons teachers. I would steer well clear of this name.

OP I agree with you about the long name thing.

It's a MN rule that I broke with DD.

She is Cassie, just Cassie. I hate Cassandra and Cassiopeia is beyond wanky.

So while I don't like Monty, I defend your right to call him just Monty and not Montgomery Grin .
