There were hundreds of Carolines in my high school year. One of the classes had 4 of them

boys in my year all seemed to be called Steven, David and Paul.

in my school year group the names that came up repeatedly were Gillian, Catherine/Kathryn, Lisa, Denise, Caroline. I'm late 30s.

I've never met anyone else with my name, which I hated at school, I so wanted to have a name that someone else had too.

Catherine/Kathryn/Cathryn/Catharine - 5 in one class and another couple in the same year, alongside a couple of Kathleens. Fun for the teechears when names started to be shortened to Cathy/Kathy.

Louise, well it seemed like it was the law for every third girl born between 1965 and 1975 to have Louise as a middle name.

Deborah (never Debra) there were a couple and a couple of Jacquelines, Alisons and Janes.

Tracy, Sharon, Jane, Debbie and boys were Stephen, Carl, Jason and Stephen.

I was born in 1972 - mum was a nurse at a residential hospital which had private and state patients so heard a lot of names. She vowed I would have an unusual name so scoured books......I was the only one in both schools with my name.

There was only one of each name in both my primary and secondary schools. Considering we all had very normal names, it has only struck me today after reading this thread, how unusual that is - it was a very small primary (less than ten girls in my year) and 30+ girls in my mixed secondary school.

I'm a Louise too but the only one in my class. I think at the time it hadn't yet reached peak popularity. I'm 46 and know loads of mid 30s Louises now but none my own age.

When I was at school there were lots of Joannes, Alisons, Sarahs, Karens and Debbies.
