If we have a boy, we're thinking of calling him Roscoe...

Hi everyone,

It's my first time on here but really keen to hear your thoughts. We're expecting our first baby soon, not sure if it's a boy or a girl. We've got plenty of lovely girls names but stuck on boys names!

Our two favourites are...

Myles and Roscoe

If we have a boy we're wondering if we should call him Myles Roscoe or Roscoe Myles.

Any thoughts?

Heh, doctorbrownbear, I know where you are! That's where i grew up (not ON the roundabout obv).

I like Myles with a y, and I think Roscoe is a little bit out-there, but if it's what you like, then I'm sure your son will be able to carry it off.

Little boy round here called Roscoe, about 8 yrs old. He seems happy enough!

I listened to Midlake over and over when pregnant with DS1 and have often said he should have been called Roscoe. I love that song.

If he was a girl, then Christabel by Joan as Policewoman was up there...

Roscoe has been the nickname of every boy named Ross I have ever known.

Myles is nice but the 'y' makes me cringe. It's Miles.

Milo is lovely. but DS2 is Milo so I'm biased

I quite like the name Roscoe. I don't see anything wrong with Myles either although agree that Miles is probably more popular.

I know a young boy called Roscoe so I'm quite used to it as a little boy's name now. It's no more a dogs name than Oscar/Rex/Max IMO. Fwiw, I prefer the name Miles (spelt like that) to Roscoe so I vote for Miles Roscoe.

According to some, we gave our son a dog's name. So far he hasn't woofed

Now I think about it, I've never met a dog called son's name but I have met a hamster

Unexpected I met a Bosco once! Sadly he didn't have red woolly hair and a green and white striped smock.

Don't like Roscoe at all. In Ireland we were plagued by an evil kid's TV show called Bosco so the rhyme puts me off. Agree it sounds like a dog's name.

Milo or Miles is better than Myles.

I am quite judgy though, and am having a particularly judgy day today, so don't go by my opinion!

Ross reminds me of that over-sized kid in the outer hebrides on that sketch show. You know with the school with only one pupil (possibly for G&T)
Anyway, sorry I can't remember the name of it ... you know the one?

I like Roscoe.

I also like Myles rather than Miles. Miles is a measurement to me, rather than a name.

I like Roscoe and loved Dokes of H.
I know an adult Myles and have never heard him complain it causes spelling headaches.

I'm usually a bit judgey about names but I quite like Roscoe, but I am old enough to only have the positive association with the tennis player Roscoe Tanner.

And here's the judgey bit; Miles with an 'i' please.

Myles will spend his life correcting people's spelling of his name.

I've also never met a dog (or other animal) named Roscoe. But I know many dogs called Oscar!

The benefit of using Myles as opposed to Miles it that there is no confusion with the metric Miles (Kilometres).

I keep thinking of 'Cybil Roscoe' being said over and over again in a silly voice on a TV show years ago.

I love it. Never heard of a dog called Roscoe, just to counter some of the other posters!

It's a great balance of a real name (as opposed to made up) that is clearly a boy's name but still oscure enough to be interesting.
