The other half doesnt like this name, but I love it, I think it is really different.

Might have to go with the OH's boring name of Alfie.

Moomin what would your OH call the child if it was just up to him? Maybe consider breaking the internet, not just in your house but worldwide, until the baby arrives. Just in case.

I worked with an Aslan once, and it is a cool name, but it's no where like famous a name as Obi.

It may be a hard one to carry off as a grandad.

no, because he'll always be associated with that one person who is far bigger, as such, than he ever will be, unless you're planning on him becoming a fuck-off Jedi knight, in which case, go for it.

I am not letting my OH see this thread.

He's already excited because I may give birth on Star Wars Day if I go overdue, and I've had to put in the birth plan that he isn't allowed to wear his Stormtrooper onesie, say "I am your father" or make lightsaber noises as he's cutting the cord (God I wish I was joking Sad )

If he knew that there is a human alive who thinks "Obie" is a good idea to name a child, there'd be no stopping him.

I think it's a bad idea to give your child a name that is really only associated with one person or one character.

I do agree with Squoosh on that one. I know a little girl called Arwen for example and I that's a lot to live up to and fall short of, but I don't think Obie quite makes that category somehow.

I don't know if he'll be bullied by it, but once he starts school it is the connection every single child will make.

As such, I think it's a quite sweet name for a baby, though I'm struggling to envisage an older person carrying it off.

Your cousins' names will mean very little to the current generation, but Star Wars is known by every generation, and if they make any more, that's going to continue for a looooong time.

I know a baby Obie. It's had a mixed reception in real life but suits his unusual family.

I think your cousins names aren't as obvious for teasing as Obie is, because of the Star Wars thing.
