Amelie-Grace, Elsie-May & Gracie-May?

Having the hyphen or not really won't make any difference to her as an adult.

Technically I have a hyphenated name and no middle name. But I haven't used the hyphen since I was about 12. It doesn't matter to me, that it's there, I just now tell people my name is Rebecca, not Rebecca-X. I'm not scarred for life by it.

Rae is even worse than Mae.

Elsie- May is my favourite, I think it's really lovely :)

But if I was going to use those names I'd have Louisa Grace, just because I love the name Louisa

Two friends did the -Mae thing last year.

This year, both their children have miraculously lost the -Mae.

So you can do it and drop it later, OP!

FWIW I love Elsie. Or Ilsa. Or Elsa.

What about Rae instead of Mae/May?

I think that they are all charming.
Elsie May is my favourite as it has a family connection for me and was what I wanted for DD2 (was overruled by ExH).
But really, all lovely!

If May is important to you, use it. Does it matter if it is popular to you? For many it doesn't. It wouldn't to me at all - after all, names only relly become popular because so many people do like the name.

Grace and May are both pretty classic names, around and in use for a long time.
Amelie - french name, ie spelling is the norm, not different whatsoever
Elsie - again, normally has ie spelling

Infact, only Gracie is the one I would say is a more cutsie not full version of a name, and more a nickname.

But then I have a DD with a name ending ie - and the ie version isn't even the most popular version. But I don't care - I prefer the version, the ie version has been in use for over 100 years, and the much older people we had heard of with the name ll used the ie version.

There is nothing wrong with the names you have chosen - they are nice names. I wouldn't personally choose to use Gracie as it it feels more like a nn, rather than Grace that's all.

Amelie-Grace is very pretty and probably ages best, but the hyphen might not age well- could her first name be Amelie Grace but without the hyphen? My name is a double name, but with no hyphen, and I love the options it gives for nicknames

But JohnnyUtah I'm not sure how that arguement against a name works - doesn't everyone choose what they call their child based on what they like, not on what the future child may prefer? After all, we have no idea what the likes and dislikes of an unborn child might be?

Amelie-Grace is very pretty and since both Amelie and Grace are perfectly respectable grown-up names there is no reason why she can't just drop the hyphen when she is older if she wanted.

I like Louisa as a middle name with Amelie-Grace. Also Nicola/Nicole, Louella, Amanda, Miranda, Maria/Marie.

All of the names are lovely, but not with a hyphen. They are strong enough names to stand on their own.

I agree with Jabber Jabber though, avoid May/Mae/Mai as a middle name. There are hundreds around at the moment.

I teach 3 children called Ellie-May/Mai/Mae in the same class!

OP are you bearing in mind your DD won't be so little at some point and might find those names a bit difficult to live with as an adult? I like them for a little girl but would probably remove hyphen so she has the option to be a bit more grown up when she wants to be.

They're not dated as in vintage, they're dated as in naughties, imo, but I can only give an English perspective. Maybe they are de rigueur in Canada. There are an awful lot of ie and hyphenated with May names in my dd's Y5 class but I can only think of 1 ie ending name in my ds's YR class, and no hyphenated ones at all. It might be a bit like calling a girl born in the 1970s Linda, when all the other Lindas were pushing 20 and the babies were all called Claire and Sarah. I think Amelie and Louisa are lovely names and Louisa is the least likely to date.

I like Amelie Grace the best by far.

Round here there are a lot of little girls who have a hyphenated name ending in May/Mae. Off I top if my head I know of an Ellie-May, 2 Olivia-Mays and a Daisy-May. I have a feeling it will date very quickly.

I have a 6 yr old Ellie-Mae. I still love her name but have had some regrets in the past. You will constantly be saying 'Hyphen MAE, yes all one name'. It will take her a long time to learn to write our other DD is Mia, much less hassle for her to learn to write and spell than E-M.Our Ellie-Mae also hates not having a middle name like all her friends.

Go for one of the ones you've suggested but be prepared for some regrets.

Haley, reasons like this are exactly why DH & I decided to keep our son's name a secret until he was born. You could post about the most mundane names & people will still hate them (probably for being too mundane!) You should pick a name that you (and DP if you have one) like. Most people don't grow up hating their name that much. In fact, most of us at one point or another have wished we were called something else.

All those names apart from Kathleen are really popular here in the Uk and I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. ...but seeing as you're in Canada, do what you will.

Please think twice before using any of these names - sorry :(

My 101 year old Aunt's name is Elsie May. She absolutely detests it (though I quite like it) but I had to laugh at the question 'will it age well?' I bet that's what her parents asked themselves 101 years ago...

haley, I'd guess that 99% os respondents on Baby Names hate hyphenated names. You tend to find 'name geeks' on here and the views expressed are not necessarily representative of those you'll find IRL.

Certain views are better left inside people's heads, anyway (I know, snippy ones, the OP asked for your opinions, but rudeness is not needed).
