MogwaiTheGremlin · 01/03/2014 16:54

Expecting dc2 in July and have been browsing the baby names threads and completely fallen in love with Elodie. Dh not keen but I really want to persuade him so need a lovely nn to help my case!
The only name we both like is Lara but we already have a Leo so I think that's a no go?
Help me please!
Thanks

Ellie
Didi

A friend was nicknamed Dodie when she was little, I've also heard Lolo used.

Branleuse · 15/03/2014 19:16

the only one i know, often gets called elo

DealForTheKids · 15/03/2014 19:07

If you pushed Ella as a nn then you might be able to side step Ellie ? It can be done - one of my childhood friends was Toey not Vicki (she was Victoria) cause she hated Vicki. Plus I like Ella as a name and Lara is on my dislike list for a number of reasons!

HyvaPaiva · 15/03/2014 19:00

I think Elodie is lovely, don't think about nicknames, just use it!

Just a thought, though. If you don't want Lara because it's too close to Leo, Elodie and Leo are even closer in sound: Leo and Elo(die).

LePetitPont · 15/03/2014 18:57

Both lovely names - Elodie (nn Didi) is on my short list.

How about Clara or Cara if you don't want to alliterate with big brother Leo?

Summerfruit · 15/03/2014 16:40

Lara is very common, and Elodie so much more lovely ! Dranksangria you have no taste Smile

DrankSangriaInThePark · 08/03/2014 13:36

Lara is lovely, and much nicer than Elodie. It's also getting very popular (kind of like Amelie did a few years ago)

Topaz25 · 08/03/2014 12:37

I don't think there is anything wrong with Lara and Leo, they're not too matchy matchy. I think having a name you and your husband both like is more important than what other people will think. If you do go with Elodie then Dee is a possible nickname (if I'm pronouncing it correctly!)

chickabilla · 07/03/2014 11:03

Lara! I have two 2 starting with J and one M.

winterhat · 07/03/2014 10:17

Leo and Lara would be nice.

Summerfruit · 07/03/2014 08:38

My Elodie is nicknamed Lolode !

tertle · 07/03/2014 08:36

I know quite a few Elodies. The only shortened version I have ever heard is 'Elo'.

Newgoldheelsrock · 07/03/2014 06:51

I don't know, I love Elodie and it's on my shortlist...and I love the nn Eddie :-)

MogwaiTheGremlin · 02/03/2014 12:58

Maybe we can have Lara Elodie (greedy!)

hatebeak · 01/03/2014 19:32

Agree - Elodie is going to be very 2014 (or a few years either side). Lara much nicer.

KatherinaMinola · 01/03/2014 19:26

Go for Lara - it's lovely. Elodie is having a bit of a moment - might be one of those names that dates.

ouryve · 01/03/2014 19:25

Mine both start with O, mogwai

Had they both been girls, they'd both start with I!

FrancesGlass · 01/03/2014 19:23

Didi (pronounced Dee-dee) would be quite cute - especially being shouted from a 2 year old's mouth!

MogwaiTheGremlin · 01/03/2014 19:19

Ds will be exactly 2 when he/she arrives so yes he might give her a (cute) babyish nn. If she did decide to go with Ellie then she'll just have to get used to being yelled at Grin as the dog will be around for awhile!

Lola is pretty, as is Dee, or Dee-Dee. I think you'd have to be quite determined to stop her being called Ellie, though.

DD1 has a name which is often shortened in a way she is not keen on. She often has to pull people up in it, if they call her that. The other point is, she might like it, and might end up being Ellie, and you will just have to lump it!

SanityClause · 01/03/2014 17:53

Lara is DD2's middle name.

I love it!

SS3J · 01/03/2014 17:44

Leo and Lara are fine. Go for Lara if that is your favourite. Fwiw my dcs are going to have the same initial. Elodie might not get shortened but if it does will probably be Ellie or Ells. At a push you might get Lola or Lolo.

ikeaismylocal · 01/03/2014 17:30

How old is your older dc? It's possible he will give her his own nn if he struggles to say the full name.

Lee-lee
Dee-Dee
Ellie

Could be possibles.
